Google recently gave us the sad news that with its new streaming player, Google TV Streamer, they would stop manufacturing Chromecast. But that doesn’t mean they’re going to leave these devices to their own devices. For now, they will continue to support models with Google TV, as they have demonstrated with an update that aims to fix a bug in these devices.
Some Google TV Chromecast users have been complaining about a problem with their home screens for several days. In a Reddit thread, one user said that when he updated his device to the latest version, it displayed a message when trying to restart: “Loading error. Cannot load ‘For You’.” The responses showed that he was not alone, as other individuals had found themselves in the same situation.
The Chromecast version that was failing was STTL24068. 005.12011027, which the Reddit user downloaded on June 1, 2024. While this particular netizen mentions that the issue occurred with a Chromecast with Google TV 4K, others have detected the same error on the HD model, on Onn set-top boxes from Walmart, and on some televisions with Google TV or Android TV built-in.
The problem had been affecting the main ‘For You’ interface of the operating system for weeks, even when they made sure that the apps and everything were up to date, and after having restarted and turned off the Chromecast and having deleted the cache of the applications.
The ‘For you’ section is one of the most important on televisions, as it provides access to the most used streaming apps and recommends series and films based on our tastes. Even if the rest of the services work, and we can enjoy the audiovisual content, the main interface is always key to moving around the system.
Luckily, Google was aware of the loading error and has already worked on a fix. Despite the fact that there has been a lot of fuss since the company announced that it would stop producing Chromecast, they assured that they would continue to sell the units that were already in stock and that they would support at least the Google TV models for the time being. The fact that they have introduced an update to solve the problem is a clear demonstration that they remain committed to these devices.
How to apply Google’s solution for Chromecast failure?
The Mountain View company has notified that They began to implement the solution to the ‘For You’ “loading error” on August 16. That is, since last week there are already users who have stopped having problems with the main interface.
However, if we go to the comments of the Reddit thread, we will see that there are Internet users who still detect the error. This is because, sometimes, the solution takes a while to arrive depending on our location or the model in question. Therefore, those people have to wait, but the solution is already on the way.
In theory, those affected by the update could resolve the issue by logging out of their account and logging back in. There were also other workarounds, such as going to Settings > Google > Manage your Google Account > Data & Privacy > Web & App Activity and turning the feature on or off and back on again. According to some users, these tricks worked.
However, not everyone has solved the loading error with their Chromecast with Google TV. With the solution that the company has launched, it will only be necessary to update the devices to fix it. As we have already said, it is a matter of time before the way that Google has solved it reaches everyone. If the tricks that other users have given have not worked for you, you will have to be patient and wait for the update that officially fixes it to reach your television device.
