DuckDuckGo is considered one of the Internet search engines that best protects privacy. It is an alternative to Google and the truth is that it has more and more users. It also has a browser that is based on privacy. However, its latest novelty may not be liked by many. Privacy may not be as protected as it used to be and that may cause some users to dislike the idea. We are going to explain what exactly it consists of.
DuckDuckGo’s browser uses trackers from Microsoft
A recent deal between DuckDuckGo and Microsoft allows the browser to use trackers from the software giant. This is a contract between the two companies, an agreement for search content. What does this mean? DuckDuckGo will not store any type of personal identifier, but Microsoft Advertising will be able to track the user’s IP and other data for statistical purposes.
DuckDuckGo started out as a privacy-based search engine. An alternative to Google to ensure that user data is more protected, without reaching the wrong hands. From there came a browser that can be used on both iOS and Android, with privacy features and functions such as HTTPS-Always encryption or tracker blocking.
But of course, the latter is not present when it comes to Microsoft trackers. That is, it will block all trackers but not these. Does that mean DuckDuckGo is less private than before? Possibly many users understand it this way and now have doubts when using it.
On the plus side, DuckDuckGo has been transparent on this issue. It has not hidden its agreement with Microsoft and that can give users some security that they really do not hide anything else and are not recording data by another party.
Complete anonymity is not possible
Whenever we browse the Internet we leave a certain trace. That is evident just by looking at cookies and trackers. But the fact of using browsers or search engines like DuckDuckGo does, at least, improve privacy somewhat. From DuckDuckGo they defend themselves by saying that they have always been clear and have warned that total anonymity is impossible.
They indicate that the way trackers change and how they work to evade protections is constantly changing. For this reason, it will not always be possible to prevent certain data from being filtered on the Internet and that makes complete anonymity impossible.
What DuckDuckGo does, what they at least try to do, is block third-party tracking scripts before they get to load on the website. Simply this already makes users more protected compared to other browsers, since the latter only usually block third-party cookies.
