It’s not all so pretty: up to 69 countries offer Internet much cheaper than Spain

In this latest study, carried out by Cable.co.uk, up to 3,703 different fixed broadband offers in 219 countries have been compiled. These data are from January 2, 2023 to March 1. Well, thanks to this report, we now know what the average price we pay for Internet in Spain is and how expensive it is compared to other countries.

In this way, we will be able to clear up doubts about the question you can ask yourself: Do we pay a lot for the Internet in Spain? What is clear is that, right now, there are up to 69 countries that pay less than us for Internet access, be it fiber or ADSL. However, from one year to the next, the average price has dropped.

This Cable.co.uk study has positioned Spain in 70th place on its list of the price paid by Internet users. Therefore, of the 219 countries, we occupy one place higher. However, we are a long way from the cheapest Internet.

In the case of our country, a total of 24 broadband access packages have been analysed. However, in said report they do not make it clear which options have been analysed. In addition, the average price of Internet access in Spain is not specified) and the average price of Internet access in Spain is 29.93 euros (32.11 dollars), somewhat less than in 2022, which was 31.50 euro.

And, in the case of our country, they have worked with a price range that goes from the cheapest option for 15 euros to a more expensive broadband package of 44.30 euros. In addition, the report shows that the cost per megabit in Spain is 0.06 euros per month.

However, as we saw, from one year to the next, the average price that Spaniards pay for the Internet has dropped. In 2022, Spain was in position 77, while now we are in position 70 on this list.

Within this report, 13 regions have been studied: North America, Oceania, the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, South America, Western Europe, Central America, Asia (except the Middle East), North Africa, Western Europe, East, Baltic countries and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS, former USSR). And if we take a look at the average regional price, ours (Western Europe) is the seventh cheapest of the thirteen regions analysed.

Top 10 countries with cheapest Internet

Once we are clear about the average price that Spaniards pay for Internet access, it does not hurt to know what the price is paid by the 10 countries where it is cheapest. Therefore, within the top 10 countries with the cheapest Internet, we find the following nations:

  • Sudan: $2.30.
  • Kazakhstan: $5.11.
  • Moldova: $7.03.
  • Belarus: $7.34.
  • Romania: $7.57.
  • Ukraine: $7.87.
  • Iran: $9.35.
  • Nepal: $9.46.
  • Egypt: $9.67.
  • India: $10.11.

Now, on the other side of the coin, we also find the 5 countries where the most is paid for Internet: Congo ($193.46), Turks and Caicos Islands ($199), Zimbabwe ($201), Suriname ($269.44) and Burundi ($383.79).
