Although until now it was a feature only available in the United States, Max has finally launched its system for watching movies with friends from your mobile in Europe. Thanks to this, you will have a different and much more fun way of sharing any type of content. Not only movies, but also series, and it is possible that it can also be used on other types of content available on the platform.
It’s been a long wait. A very long one, to be exact. SharePlay has been available in North America since before HBO Max became Max, so you can imagine that the process has taken much longer than expected. We might even have thought that it would never come to our market. Luckily, it’s now available for all iOS users who want to share their content playback on iMessage or FaceTime.
What do we need to use it?
First of all, it should be noted that this feature has been enabled for all users regardless of whether they are paying for the Standard or Premium plan. The only users who would not be able to benefit from it would be those who were subscribed to the Standard plan with ads, but this is not yet available in our market, so there is no need to think too much about it.
Thanks to this system, you have the opportunity to hold viewing sessions in which up to 32 people can participate. The most positive thing is that it is not only compatible with iPhone devices, but it works throughout the entire Apple brand environment. Thus, for example, you can share viewing sessions with users who have Apple TV devices, with iPad users and even with those who have ventured into purchasing a Vision Pro terminal.
How does it work?
First of all, the user who is going to manage the start of the viewing session must look for the SharePlay button in the information about the content they are viewing. Once you have the button, you can click on it and select the contacts you want to invite. It should be noted that viewing sessions can be created from any of the devices listed above, so there are no limitations in that regard. However, the process changes slightly depending on the device you are using.
For most, it’s just a matter of tapping Share and choosing how you want to send the invitation, either via FaceTime or iMessages. If you’ve chosen the latter, your contacts will receive a message inviting them to join the viewing. If the device you’re using to log in is an Apple TV, you’ll need to do one thing before you can access Max: open FaceTime. You can then tap SharePlay, and then choose the Max app to start the session.
In any case, all the systems are simple and do not have much mystery. As we indicated, the limit of participants is a total of 32 and, of course, it is necessary that all users are Max subscribers. It will not be enough to simply share the session and have everyone watch the film or series for free as it happens in other services.
Since all users must be Max subscribers, this means that people in areas of the world where HBO Max has not yet become Max will not be able to participate in the sessions. This includes, for example, subscribers in Southeast Asian countries, where the transformation of the service is expected to occur before the end of the year. However, Max makes it clear that there are no specific dates for now. The good news is that, in Spain, we will not have any problems taking advantage of this function.
