Yesterday was the second Tuesday of the month, and, as usual, Microsoft released its new security patches with which to correct all the vulnerabilities detected in the operating system and that could endanger users. Whether you work with the computer or make personal use of it, you must install these new updates as soon as possible to avoid running dangers and ending up in the clutches of hackers.

These new updates are now available to all users who have a supported version of Windows on their PCs. That is, those that have either Windows 10 22H2 installed, or, failing that, Windows 11 22H2, 23H2 and 24H2.

These new cumulative updates are very important, since they are the first to arrive in Windows 11 24H2. And, as usual, in addition to solving the vulnerabilities, Microsoft takes the opportunity to correct other bugs and errors detected in the system, which will further refine the operation of the new version of the operating system.

Windows 11 KB5044284 Update

The patches that have reached Windows, depending on their version, are registered as:

  • KB5044273 -> For Windows 10 22H2
  • KB5044285 -> For Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2
  • KB5044284 -> For Windows 11 24H2

October 2024 Security Patches: Fixes

These new security updates for Windows are pretty big updates. In total, 117 security flaws detected throughout the operating system have been solved. And, in addition, Microsoft takes the opportunity to solve other security flaws not related to Windows, such as 4 flaws detected in the Chromium engine.

Specifically, the vulnerabilities are distributed as follows:

  • Windows 10 22H2: fixes 61 vulnerabilities, of which 1 is critical, 59 important, and 1 is moderately dangerous.
  • Windows 11 22H2: fixes 66 vulnerabilities, of which 1 is critical, 64 are important, and 1 is moderately dangerous.
  • Windows 11 23H2: fixes 66 vulnerabilities, of which 1 is critical, 64 important, and 1 is moderately dangerous.
  • Windows 11 24H2: fixes 67 vulnerabilities, of which 1 is critical, 65 important, and 1 is moderately dangerous.

The critical flaw is, in all versions of Windows, the vulnerability “CVE-2024-43582”, a flaw in the Remote Desktop Protocol server that can allow an attacker to execute code on the system without user permission.

How to update

These new updates are now available to all users of the Microsoft operating system. The easiest and fastest way to install them is to do it directly through Windows Update. Simply launch the tool to update the operating system, check for new updates, and download the new patch from it.

In any case, we will almost never have to do this, since the operating system is prepared to automatically download and install Windows updates. Therefore, the new patch will be downloaded and installed while we use the PC, and when we turn off or restart the PC, it will take the opportunity to install and apply.

Finally, if you have any problems with the update, we recommend downloading and installing the update manually from the Microsoft Update catalog. We simply have to search for the patch that adapts to our operating system using the corresponding KB code. And, once downloaded, install it on the PC so that it can finish applying.
