Our Steam account often becomes the target of hackers. These constantly try to take over our accounts to be able to steal our PC games and, in addition, use it to bank stolen objects from the community. That is why protecting it properly is vital if we want to prevent our account from falling into the wrong hands. And the Steam app for Android and iOS plays a fundamental role in protecting our accounts.
Steam, like many other companies, has a double authentication system that, when we enter the account username and password, asks us for a new key, which is only temporarily generated in the mobile application. We enter this new password and, automatically, we can enter our account and access all our games.
A few weeks ago, after years without receiving changes, it did a complete facelift to the Android and iOS application. In this facelift, not only has it become easier to move around the store and our library, but the login system has been completely renewed, adding, in addition to the temporary code, two new ways to log in using the mobile.
Analyze a QR
The second of the ways to log in to Steam thanks to the new mobile app is none other than using a QR code. When we enter the store website (or the desktop app of the computer), we can automatically see a QR code.
If we have the mobile at hand, just scan the code with the Steam app for Android and iOS to be able to enter our account. We do not need anything else, neither username nor password nor the double authentication code. Just by scanning the code, we will automatically log in to the PC, similar to the WhatsApp Web login.
with a notification
This is the most surprising method, and the least we have heard of. For it, we need to enter our username and password for our account on the web, and click on log in. Instead of having to enter the start code, as we had to do before, we will be able to log in by accepting a simple notification that appears in the mobile app, like the following.
We can see in it the data of the connection attempt (location, IP, etc) and, if everything is correct, simply accept the start and that’s it. In a few seconds, the PC will be logged in and we will have access to our entire account and all our games.
When should I use the code?
Thanks to these two new ways to log in securely, and more conveniently, the Steam app itself is leaving the 2FA code in the background. What’s more, when we go to enter it to enter the account we can see a message that tells us that it is only recommended to use it when the mobile does not have an Internet connection. If the mobile is connected, it is better to opt for any of the other two methods to enter the account, since they are faster and more secure.
