Armies of the future may well be made up of packs of dogs fighting each other or sneaking into enemy facilities to wreak havoc. But although the mere idea of seeing robot dogs advancing is already terrifying, now we want to spoil your day a little by telling you that the next step has already been taken: putting flamethrowers on them.
We can’t get it out of our heads. What need is there to put a flamethrower on a robot dog? But possibly at the offices of Throwflame, the company that invented the dog in question, they see it in a very different way. And it doesn’t surprise us either, because surely there are many armies that are already rubbing their hands thinking about the dogs with flamethrowers that set everything on fire in their path.
His name is Thermonator
It would be easy to imagine that the creation of the web dedicated to the robot dog with flamethrowers is a fake, a joke, something that someone has invented to mess it up. But no, it’s real. Very real. The creators of it are really proud of the dog and, of course, also of the flamethrower that it has integrated. As they say, he is capable of throwing fire at a distance of 30 feet and has an ability to burn absolutely everything in his path.
But to be fair, Throwflame is just the manufacturer of the flamethrower. They have taken care, yes, to attach it to the robot dog to demonstrate how well the combination of both elements adapts. And not only that, but they have said that it is now possible to join a waiting list to buy the Thermonator, with the expectation that it will be shipped to its owners in the third quarter of this year.
the fire dog
They assure from the manufacturing company that this is the first robot dog with a flamethrower. For its composition, on the one hand, the ARC flamethrower has been used, which offers fast charging, an intelligent battery, a plasma ignition system and a design that they call super adaptable. So adaptable that, for now, they are going to put him in a robot dog, but you never know if his long-term plans include continuing to test ideas. Actually, from their website we can already see that they have placed flamethrowers on drones so that they fly while releasing powerful bursts of fire, so anything is possible.
For its part, we read that it seems that the robot dog in question is the Unitree Go1 model. As some experts say, it is not the best robot dog, but it is the best value for money and it does not have rights that prevent it from being used as a weapon. This is because there are some robotics manufacturers that do have very specific conditions on how their robots can be used, avoiding, by all means, that they have war applications.
Throwflame doesn’t seem like he’s eager to break into the world of selling weapons of war, because his main experience is with flamethrower enthusiasts and the movie world, but you never know. The materials being revealed in the Thermonator case seem more like what Tony Stark would have sold to his clients before he became Iron Man.
With the movement capacity of the Thermonator, its possible expansion with other types of weapons and that its price could be quite contained for the budgets of armies, no one would be surprised if robot dogs began to be seen burning enemy defenses or installations. . ARC flamethrowers like the one the robot dog will have sell for affordable prices of between $700 and $900, so the Thermonator is most likely a relatively cheap next-gen weapon. But in any case, we don’t know if we’re ready to start seeing these robotic creatures on the battlefield. For now, everything is up in the air.
