The big House of the Dragon spoiler that Joffrey Baratheon revealed to us in Game of Thrones in just a few seconds

The streaming platform Max has bet big with House of the Dragon. Its Game of Thrones spin-off is attracting millions of viewers. Many of them already came from the legendary series based on the literary saga of A Song of Ice and Fire (George RR Martin), but possibly not all of them will remember the spoiler that Joffrey of House Baratheon, First of His Name, gave us.

Three years after the end of Game of Thrones, Max brought the history of Westeros back into our lives with House of the Dragon. Chronologically, the first season is set during the reign of Viserys I, during which he named his firstborn daughter Rhaenyra as his successor. However, after his death, Aegon II Targaryen, the heiress’s half-brother, was the one who succeeded his father due to a misinterpretation by his mother, Alicent Hightower.

The consequences of Viserys I’s second wife misinterpreting the late king’s words on his deathbed are only just beginning to be seen in the second season of the spin-off. However, Game of Thrones was riddled with references to events during the Targaryen reign in Westeros. Therefore, it is not unusual to find some spoilers in its dialogues.

In this case, we are going to talk about one that Joffrey Baratheon narrated to his fiancée, Margaery Tyrell, while he was showing her the Roza Keep in King’s Landing. Specifically, in a scene that takes place in the fourth chapter of the third season. From minute 14:17 to 14:34.

What exactly did Joffrey Baratheon say?

If you’ve been on social media lately and looked for posts about House of the Dragon, you’ve probably read more than one spoiler. Fans of the series are used to it. The story is still based on Westeros’ past, so it’s not unusual for us to learn about some of the most important events.

One of the most anticipated moments for viewers who already know what happens from Game of Thrones is the bloody Civil War of the Dance of Dragons. This took place between 129 and 131 AD, during the reign of the Targaryen Dynasty, in the struggle for succession to the throne between Rhaenyra and her half-brother Aegon.

Rhaenyra Targaryen Aegon II

In the few seconds of conversation between Joffrey and Margaery, the former tells her about the fatal outcome of the main protagonist of The House of the Dragon, who died in the middle of battle. “Rahenyra Targaryen was killed by her brother or… by her brother’s dragon,” explains the King of the Seven Kingdoms between 298 and 300 AD. “He devoured her in front of her son. What remains of her is buried in the crypt of the cellars.”

This spoiler is told for laughs, but I don’t think all viewers interested in House of the Dragon will like it. While it’s clear that we’re going to get multiple plot revelations in Game of Thrones, not everyone likes to know what will happen to extremely important characters in the spin-off.

Will Rhaenyra’s death be as Joffrey tells it?

However, the fact that almost 200 years after the events, Joffrey knows about the plot, does not mean that the events happened exactly as he tells them. Normally, we learn the story from the side that won. In this case, the battle was won by the Greens (Aegon II), so the Blacks (Rhaenyra) were left in a bad position.

Over the years, the death of Viserys I’s legitimate successor may have been exaggerated. In fact, we have the example of the fight between the twin brothers Arryk and Erryk Cargyll, a legend with different accounts. Some said it lasted hours and others that it lasted only a few minutes. We have finally been able to learn the true story in House of the Dragon. The same could happen with Rhaenyra’s story and some accounts of the events may not have occurred as they were narrated.
