When we browse the Internet, not everyone is aware of the different tools that are used today to be able to “control” everything a user does while entering or leaving the different websites they visit. Well, according to the latest data, a single website has an average of up to 48 trackers that spy on every move you make.

This has been detailed by NordVPN in their latest report. Worst of all, not only is it that they have on average this high number of trackers that can know every movement we make, but they also collect information that is considered confidential from users while they browse the Internet.

Internet is more spy than before

The NordVPN company, during the different tests it carried out, even used two extensions that add privacy to users, Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin, and a web browser known for offering browsing with independent searches and for being one of the most powerful in terms of privacy, we refer to Brave.

Well, using these three elements, the analysts came to measure the different web trackers, be they cookies or tracking pixels, that are on the 100 most popular websites in 25 countries. And the truth is that, after verifying it, they were able to determine that now more than ever, the Internet knows more about you than you think.

Spy on Internet users

For example, they determined that social networking websites are one of the worst, since they can have an average of 160 trackers. In second place, the health pages occupy the second position, with an average of 46 trackers, and, in third place, the different digital and communication media, with an average of almost 30 trackers. Also, on the other side, we find that government websites are one of the pages with the least amount of crawlers on average.

Whose tracking systems?

In this sense, it must be taken into account that information is power. And because of this, most of the tracking trackers that get user information belong to third-party companies. For example, almost a third (30%) of the crawlers belong to Google, Facebook has 11% and Adobe has 7%.

In addition, according to NordVPN’s digital privacy expert, “the number of website trackers depends mostly on the data protection laws of each country.” For example, in Europe when we find ourselves with the rules of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), web pages have fewer trackers than other corners of the world, as could be the case in the United States, since there is no particular law that covers privacy in all states of the country.

And it is that, the main problem with the data that they learn about us with these trackers is that they can manage to create a detailed profile of each user, which is sold to a third party. Therefore, cybercriminals can get this data to send us phishing attacks and that we fall into the trap by knowing the detailed profile of the users. For this reason, they recommend that we use VPN on our devices and a web browser that takes user privacy more seriously.
