There are more and more different types of attacks that can put the data stored on our computers at risk. This is something that affects both desktop computers and the mobile devices that we always carry with us.

Hence precisely why it is important to know the risks we run when using certain technologies on a regular basis. We increasingly work with sensitive and personal data that can end up in unwanted hands when we least expect it. In fact, in these same lines we are going to talk about Bluesnarfing, a new method focused on accessing our mobile devices without us realizing it.

This is a notice that comes to us from the National Police and that has been published on its TikTok social network account. Here they tell us about this new system that a growing number of attackers take advantage of to access our mobile device. And the scammers with this methodology try to take advantage of the Bluetooth wireless technology that we always have activated on most occasions on our mobile phones.

How Bluesnarfing works to steal our data

Thus, now the National Police warns us about the dangers of all this. That is precisely where the new technique they have called Bluesnarfing comes into play. Specifically, this is a method that makes use of certain existing vulnerabilities in Bluetooth technology, all in order to access the data stored in the terminal.

The danger of all this is that the potential attacker only needs to be at a distance of less than 10 meters from our position to achieve his objective.

Precisely that is the maximum range that this wireless technology has. Starting from the fact that we have Bluetooth activated on our mobile phones on most occasions, we are already running a risk. And these attackers have the means to get closer to our position, take advantage of the security flaws of this wireless technology, and directly steal the data stored on our mobile phone just by getting a little closer.

Furthermore, we must take into consideration that after the attack itself, there is no evidence that we have been victims of this digital theft through Bluetooth.

Prevent the theft of your mobile data with Bluetooth

Obviously, in most cases we are going to do everything we can to avoid becoming victims of this scam and theft of personal data. The first thing we must do is keep our mobile device updated at all times. Here we refer to both the operating system and the applications and functions that are part of it.

Likewise and to the extent possible, especially if we are going to spend time in a crowded environment, we should try to deactivate Bluetooth when we do not need it. At the same time, if a connection request from an unknown device appears on the screen, of course we will always have to reject it. This will at least keep you protected from this new attack system they have called Bluesnarfing.
