This Netflix strategy to get us to change our subscription doesn’t please anyone

Over the past few months, some of the changes being made by the most popular video streaming platform, Netflix, have been surrounded by controversy. Major changes are being made to subscription models and prices, and not always with success.

For a few months now, many of you have surely experienced first-hand the company’s efforts to prevent us from sharing accounts. In addition, we have been telling you for some time now about the elimination of one of its most popular subscription plans. Specifically, we are referring to the Standard Plan, which has its days numbered.

First of all, it is worth mentioning that this is not the cheapest plan we can find on the streaming platform of the big N. There is a more affordable one for 5.49 euros, but with advertising. To get rid of the ads, we must resort to the aforementioned Standard Plan, which will disappear soon. This has a price of 12.99 euros and allows us to play at a maximum quality of Full HD with support for up to 2 devices simultaneously.

But of course, considering its disappearance soon, the platform wants users to migrate to another model as soon as possible. In principle, this elimination will take place in the United Kingdom and Canada. The standard plan that we mentioned will disappear definitively on July 13. As you can imagine, this is a change that will spread to the rest of the regions, including our country, over the next few weeks.

However, controversy has been sparked in those two countries by an unexpected move that Netflix is currently making.

This is the Netflix controversy with the Standard Plan

Users in Canada and the United Kingdom are receiving a warning message alerting them that their Standard Plan will disappear on the 13th. So far, everything is normal, as we can assume that the video streaming company is informing users who have this active subscription about its disappearance.

Netflix prices

The problem is that along with this information message, it also communicates that the current plan has already been cancelled and forces users to choose another one. What everyone expected, and can be considered normal, is that users subscribed to the Standard Plan would not be forced to change their subscription plan come July 13. However, Netflix has decided to cancel it right now in order to somehow force users to make the decision as soon as possible, as reported in a recent post. letter to shareholders.

In short, UK and Canadian subscribers on the Standard Plan will now no longer be allowed to access their content unless they complete the switch to the new plan, even though the current plan will remain active until the 13th.

Netflix message

It is possible that many would like to continue using their current subscription until that date of demise, to leave Netflix or make the decision then. But they have not been given that opportunity, hence the complaints that have appeared. In addition, this is something that everything indicates will be extended to the rest of the countries. We will see what happens when it reaches Spain.
