As soon as you take an Apple Watch out of the box, you will notice that it does not matter which wrist you want to wear the watch on. As a left-handed person, don’t worry too much, because after following these steps you can wear the Apple Watch on your right wrist without any problems. You can also rotate the screen and choose whether you want the Digital Crown on the left or right.

Apple Watch: left-handed or right-handed?
With the Apple Watch you can choose how you want to wear the watch: right or left-handed and with the Digital Crown on the left or right.
When setting up the Apple Watch, you are presented with two choices. First of all, you can set whether you wear the Watch on your left or right wrist and then you can indicate which side you prefer to have the Digital Crown on.
It does not matter when using the Apple Watch. You can always change the setting again at a later time via the iPhone or the Apple Watch itself. Below we explain step by step how to do this.
Choose Apple Watch wearing position with iPhone
This is how you can switch between left wrist and right wrist:
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Go to the General tab to change the settings.
- Scroll to Carrying position and tap this option.
- Here you can choose between left wrist or right wrist and on which side you want to use the Digital Crown (left or right of the Watch).
Change Apple Watch wearing position with Apple Watch
You can also adjust the settings on the Apple Watch:
- Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch (the gray gear).
- Using the Digital Crown, scroll down to the General menu option.
- Here you can adjust the wearing position and the position of the Digital Crown to your own preference.
Apple Watch: Rotate screen or change strap
Do you put the Apple Watch on your wrist and the screen is the wrong way round? Then the wearing position may have been set incorrectly, but it may also be that you have simply put the watch on your wrist incorrectly. You can solve this in several ways, depending on what you like best:
- Adjust the carrying position (see steps above).
- Turn the Apple Watch 180 degrees and put it properly on your wrist.
- Swap the two parts of the strap.
However, make sure that you do not wear the strap inside out, because then the attachment will not ‘fit’ properly and you run the risk of the Apple Watch slipping off your wrist at an unattended moment.
Left-handed watch straps for Apple Watch?
Also good to know: you don’t have to buy special watch straps if you want to wear your Apple Watch left-handed. You can disconnect the watch straps and attach them the other way around, so that you can close the strap naturally as a left-handed user.
Did you know that luxury watch manufacturers rarely market special versions for left-handed users? That is not necessary, because you normally hardly need the watch button. But this is different with the Apple Watch: the button is an important part of daily operation.
