When we buy a plane ticket, there are many details that we must enter. And, if we are in a hurry or are not as attentive as we should be, it is possible that we make some mistakes during this entire process. So, how should we act if we make a mistake when filling in information on a plane ticket?
Buy a air ticket It requires the introduction of a series of personal data that, if we are not concentrated, can result in a mistake by not pressing the appropriate key or confusion in a specific field. Although it is true that under normal conditions we should not have no problem to be able to modify them, How strict the airlines are means that facing this situation always generates extra uncertainty.
The Spanish Data Protection Agency relies on article 16 of the RGPD to state that, in the event that we make a mistake, we should not have to assume any extra costs, making use of the right to rectification. However, despite this, it is possible that the company we fly with forces us to pay a fee. Next, we know what the OCU says about it.
Right to rectification
In the moment in wich a passenger makes a mistake When you buy a ticket on a website, you can exercise the right to rectify your personal data, as we have previously mentioned. Neither travel agencies nor airlines should charge for correct a mistake, as stated by the OCU itself.
“The passenger must demonstrate that it is not a change of passengers, but the dilution of an error”. And, for this, “You must attach proof, a copy of your ID”. Therefore, it is important to emphasize that we are referring to the situation of correcting a surname that we have misspelled or correcting a date of birth, but do not make a name change in the tickets we have bought. In this situation, we should assume the cost that is reflected in the company’s conditions.
According to the information published by the OCU, in some cases it is not allowed to change the name of the ticket, in others it is, “pbut paying a cost that can be the equivalent of buying a new ticket”. In this case, we are invited to contact the airline so that we can make the corresponding modification.
Claim in case of collection
The OCU also stops to inform us of what we would have to do in the event that We have been charged for making a modification to our ticket. The organization is clear: if they charge us to resolve an error, we must complain. To do this, we should claim that we want to exercise our right to rectification and, therefore, the corrections should be free of charge.
We should send a letter (the OCU has a model on its own website) to customer service, making a copy to the person responsible for data protection of the airline, whose contact should appear in the privacy policy. If, after a month, we do not receive a response, we will have to complain to the Data Protection Agency, anddemanding the return of the amount paid, in the event of having transferred.
