O2 is Telefónica’s second brand in Spain, so it uses Movistar’s fiber and mobile coverage. But is it worth contracting one of their rates? That is exactly what we are going to see today, especially after the official announcement of 5G in Digi, one of its direct rivals, since it also uses the coverage of the Spanish operator.

There are several points for which you may be interested in contracting one of the Internet-only, mobile or combined rates of this operator. But, if you are not very clear about it, it is time to put a certain order in everything it can offer you today. Something that will help you choose if you are thinking of changing operators during 2024.

What does O2 have to convince you?

One of the first advantages that you could find in O2, compared to its competitor Digi, was Movistar’s 5G connection. Well, this point should no longer be taken into account, since the Romanian operator already offers its customers this fifth generation coverage. However, there are another series of points that may convince you:

  • Movistar Plus+ with a discount: with this operator you can have a permanent discount of 2 euros per month if you want to contract Movistar TV. If you are a customer of the Romanian operator you can also, but paying 14 euros, the price set for customers of other operators.
  • “Unlimited browsing” with your mobile: you put it in quotes because O2’s mobile rates are not unlimited as such, but, once you use up the GB of your rate, you can always continue browsing at a reduced speed of 128 Kbps. Something that is not It happens on the other operator, since another amount of mobile gigabytes is set at reduced speed (1.5 GB, 5 GB…).
  • Internet with unlimited landline: all O2 fiber rates include landline with unlimited calls to national landlines and mobiles.
  • eSIM and MultiSIM services: with this operator you can have eSIM, an option that may interest you if you have a compatible device. Just as it also offers the MultiSIM option to its customers. The eSIM was confirmed in Digi, but it did not last long, at the moment, it is out of service.
  • No permanence: they do not ask you for permanence for the installation of the fiber.
  • Mobile and other device store: unlike what happens at Digi, at the low-cost Movistar operator you can buy different devices.

O2 Bear

Not all that glitters is gold

Despite the different reasons that may interest you about O2, the truth is that not everything that glitters in Movistar’s second brand is gold. It is true that it has several points in its favor. But there are also a series of aspects that work against it if we compare the operator with Digi.

First of all, we have to talk about prices. In general, O2 is more expensive than Digi, whether it is fiber-only, mobile or combined plans. So it is no secret that with the Romanian operator you will pay less every month.

Digi portability January 2024

On the other hand, within mobile lines, Digi offers you an unlimited data rate at maximum speed for just €20 per month. At O2, the highest rate is 200 GB, of course, along with a fiber rate with 1 Gbps. To this we must add that this operator allows you to accumulate GB, so it is a appreciated extra.

And as for fiber or combined plans, you can have, for example, Smart fiber with 1 Gbps and 5G mobile with 100 GB for only 28 euros per month. The closest thing O2 has to this price is its convergent rate with 300 Mbps and 5G mobile with 10 GB for 30 euros. So it is clear that Digi wins in prices.

In addition to the prices, another positive aspect of this company is that its fare catalog is much broader. You have many alternatives to choose from, while at O2 it is smaller. And we must not forget that the Romanian operator offers up to 10 Gbps of fiber with its Pro-Digi rate.
