Digi has become one of the most popular operators in our country, attracting a large number of clients who come from other companies. The reasons? Among others, the good customer service it offers and the excellent price of its fiber rates, with special attention to Smart fiber. But is it possible that users are experiencing a drop in speed late in the day?

The emergence of Digi in the Spanish telecom market It has been excellent news for a large number of users. The company of Romanian origin has a catalog of fiber rates that is very attractive for all those looking to enjoy maximum speed without having to spend a lot of money.

The Smart fiber, which is what is available in those areas where the operator has its own fiber network, starting at €15 for 500 Mb and reaching €25 per month in the case of contracting up to 10 Gb symmetrical. However, it seems that some users would be reporting significant speed drops during the last hours of the day, as explained our RedesZone colleagueswhat could be the reason?

Possible saturation

As we have already anticipated, Digi is one of the most popular operators that we currently have in our country. Its attractive prices are more than enough reason for many users to opt for hire their services, especially in the event that you have direct coverage from the operator. However, this could be a problem in terms of user experience at peak hours.

As RedesZone explains, Digi uses GPON and XGS-PON technology in fiber up to 10 Gbps, which is what the tests have been carried out with. The OLT port is therefore shared with dozens of clients. And this is the reason why at peak times, when receiving many requests, our connection could begin to experience certain slowdowns compared to the speed it offers us at other times of the day. But what do the speed tests?

Downhill speed affected

To confirm the hypothesis, RedesZone has carried out several speed tests that have allowed monitor performance of our network connection at different times of the day. Although for most of the day, the connection maintains a very linear performance, with the classic variations which is common to occur with any operator, the same does not happen in the time period between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Which is probably when most people are connected to the Internet: either browsing the Internet or consuming content via streaming. Furthermore, when the test is extended to the last seven days, decreases in speed have also been detected in other time slots, such as at 17.00 and 19.00 or at some specific points in the morning.

However, at all times our colleagues mention that the decrease occurs only in the descent speed, not on the way up. A fairly frequent diagnosis when we are referring to a possible saturation of the network that the connection offers us.

Although there has been no recent news from the operator regarding a possible impact on its service, it is most likely that these are small saturations caused by the increase in customers and that they could be occurring locally. and punctual. We will continue to monitor the tests by the RedesZone team to see if Digi continues to experience these types of problems in the coming weeks.
