Windows 10 and Windows 11 are operating systems that are constantly evolving. Microsoft is constantly developing new features and functions for its systems, which reach all users both through the Insider program and through the conventional updates that reach these systems. Today, Windows 11 users are celebrating, since, after a long wait, we have seen how one of the most requested functions has become a reality: widgets on the lock screen.

Microsoft introduced widgets back in the Windows Vista era, but after the release of Windows 7, they were no longer around. In Windows 10, the software giant tried to revive them in a strange and different way, and the concept didn’t go over well with everyone. With Windows 11, the widget panel is still there, and it’s still not very useful or intuitive.

However, things are about to change. We have seen this in the latest Insider update that has reached Windows 11 users enrolled in this “beta” update program.

Windows 11: widgets on the lock screen

A few hours ago, Microsoft launched a new version of its operating system for users enrolled in the Insider program. Specifically, within the “Canary” branch, the most advanced. In this new version, in addition to other new features, we find a new feature that, without a doubt, will please everyone.

While we’ve already seen some experiments with bringing system widgets to the lock screen, it’s only now that we’ve finally seen a serious design. As you can see in the image below, Microsoft has added an acrylic blur to the cards, as well as tweaking the size, spacing, and font used in these cards.

Windows 11 lock screen widgets

Windows 11 lets us see almost the same information that we can see in the system widget panel, that is, the weather forecast, traffic information, the stock market, sports, etc. To activate these new widgets, we just have to go to the “Settings > Personalization > Lock screen” section and activate the option from there.

However, we remind you that, for now, this is a feature exclusive to the Windows 11 Insider branch, so if you are not part of this program you will not be able to use it.

Other new features in the latest Insider version

In addition to the above change, which is one of the most anticipated, Microsoft has introduced other new features within this new version of Windows 11. Some of the most important changes, which we will be able to enjoy soon, are:

  • If you have a trial version, you can now see the expiration date in the “About” section.
  • New energy recommendation: disable HDR to conserve battery on laptops.
  • It is now possible to pin apps from the Start menu to the taskbar by dragging and dropping the icons.

In addition, of course, Microsoft has also fixed a large number of bugs, issues and errors detected in these versions of Windows. So, if all the fixes work without a hitch, we should be able to see them applied to our systems very soon.
