It is very possible that most of you already know it, but just in case, we will tell you that Windows 10 will stop receiving official support from Microsoft next October of this year. It may seem inconsequential to you, but it is much more important than it seems at first.
This means that the company developing the operating system will stop sending updates of all kinds, including those related to security, to that version of the system. Therefore, all those who continue working on Windows 10 from that moment on should know that they will be doing so on vulnerable software. From that date on, many attackers will be vigilant to take advantage of the vulnerabilities that arise and try to access our data stored here.
The problem is that starting in October 2025, the software giant will no longer send security updates to patch them, as has happened until now. Thus, at this point, perhaps many will finally make the decision to upgrade to Windows 11. It must be taken into consideration that this migration that we mentioned can be carried out completely free of charge. However, getting Windows 11 from Windows 10 is not the only solution we can use.
Is it worth using Linux after Windows 10?
We have other operating systems at our disposal, such as one of the many Linux distributions that we can download and install. There is no doubt that the main advantage we find here is that we will not have to pay for these operating systems. In addition, it is important to take into consideration that they are increasingly similar, in terms of interface and operation, to Windows in general terms. That is something that its developers already take care of. We can even affirm that resource consumption will decrease significantly.
At the same time, we must know that the software that we can install here is practically the same as in the Microsoft operating system, removing some exceptions. In most cases it won’t take us too long to get used to the way most Linux distributions work. This means that these open source operating systems have become an excellent alternative for those who want to abandon Windows, or do not want to install the most recent version after the end of Windows 10.
We advise you to try several of these distributions, for example in a virtual machine after downloading its ISO image, and thus choose the one that best suits our needs or tastes.
Buy a new computer to use Windows 11
It may also happen that we currently have a PC that is not hardware compatible with the new version of the Microsoft operating system. Almost all of the current computers sold already include Windows 11 by default. But of course, as you can imagine, here we will have to make an economic outlay for which not everyone is prepared.
All in all, it is a good option if our computer is already outdated. And from 400 euros we will have the possibility of getting a new laptop, based on Windows 11 and capable of most current modes of use, for example. Everything will depend on our budget and the needs we have when using the PC on a day-to-day basis.
Obviously, if, for example, we need a new computer based on the latest version of the system to play, here the cost rises significantly, but it is another option to leave aside the obsolete Windows 10.
