For a while to this part, Microsoft promised its millions of users that a multitude of artificial intelligence functions would reach their programs and platforms. And it seems that the promise is gradually fulfilled, something that is extended to the different applications that are part of the Suite Office.
We tell you all this because over the last months we have seen how software solutions as important as the text editor, Word, received AI functions. Also, its user interface is adapting to these new intelligent tools, both at functional and aspect level. However, as we will see below, not all the changes that occur here are positive and beneficial for the user.
In fact, right now the software giant has just introduced an important change, eliminating a very useful function in the aforementioned Word, in favor of its Copilot. But apparently the advantages are not being expected at first. Apparently now Microsoft Word eliminates the intelligent search in favor of the aforementioned co -ilot in its application for Windows 11. And it is that in its eagerness to introduce artificial intelligence in all its products, the company has decided to get rid of Word’s intelligent search practice.
As many will already know firsthand, this function allowed to easily search the definition of a word with a couple of mouse clicks. Now the tool as such has been obsolete giving way to the AI of the company. This is something that occurred on January 1, 2025, as they inform us.
Copilot doesn’t work too well in Word
Hence, in these moments we can affirm that the software giant is eliminating some very useful functions of its programs, in order to give way to their own artificial intelligence. All this with the healthy end that we get used to using co -pilot in most of its applications and platforms. But we have already seen that this is not always as beneficial as we would like.
The intelligent search they just retired allowed Microsoft Word users to quickly search definitions, synonyms and contextual information for a word or phrase. In addition, all this was done without leaving the document or using third -party programs. All that had to be done was to press the right mouse button on a word and select Search in the context menu. At that time a results panel appeared on the right side of the document window. Here we saw definitions, Wikipedia articles and other search results on the web through Bing.
It was extremely useful to carry out all kinds of research documents or academic works. But all this has now disappeared in favor of the aforementioned AI that Microsoft has insisted that we use. Moreover, the company itself, as we told you only a few days ago, now the nomenclature of its office suite has already changed by the name of Microsoft 365 Copilot, which makes its current objectives clear. This is a change that undoubtedly disappoints a good number of users worldwide.
