After the name change to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter continues on the path that Elon Musk announced a few months ago, a change that leads it to become an application for everything, an application that wants to be a clone of WeChat in China. One of the functions that will soon arrive on the platform will be video calls.

The current CEO of X Corp, Linda Yaccarino, has given an interview to CNBC where she has announced that video calls will be one of the new functions that will come to the platform in the next updates, a function that will allow this type of communication without the need to share a phone number or email address. In this way, a rumor that began to circulate in July is confirmed and where it was pointed out that video and audio calls were about to reach the platform.

At the moment, we do not know when this new function will arrive on the platform, just as we do not know if the possibility of making video calls will be available to everyone or only to users who pay for the Blue subscription, a subscription that has a monthly price of 9 68 euros if we use a browser or 11 if we contract it through a mobile device (for the commission that both Google and Apple keep).

Twitter Blue

Yaccarino has stated that this new feature is one of many that will arrive in the future with the intention of transforming the app into an app for everything, but without mentioning that Elon’s ultimate intention is to turn X into the WeChat of the West, for what is more than likely that in a while, X will also be a platform to make payments and where you can also buy all kinds of products.

WeChat has always been one of the most widely used messaging platforms in China, which is why its creators have gradually added new features to make it an application for everything. However, Twitter, now X, is a minority platform, in fact, it is the social network with the fewest number of users compared to Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, with just over 250 million active users, so it has a lot to do with it. to change X to become an application that is used massively throughout the world, as is currently the case with WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram.

However, if all these features are only available through a paywall, Elon’s intention to create an app for everything is useless since not everyone is willing to pay a subscription, especially from time to time. this part where there are many applications that are betting on this type of monetization and when the number of subscriptions that are already paid every month, and that, unlike these, offer us new content every month.
