One of the most widespread and used social networks at the moment is TikTok, but the platform is not going through a good time in the United States, where its closure is already a reality. And the attempt by those in charge to avoid it has not had the expected success.

We tell you all this because just a few hours ago, the supreme authority of the North American country gave the green light for the closure of the social network focused on videos, TikTok. To give you a better idea of the situation, the US Supreme Court has now unanimously ratified the law that Congress approved at the time.

This allows the president to order the closure of the platform starting this past weekend. Thus, we can say that at this moment the social network will stop working in the US in just a few hours. This also means that any future of it will have to go through a sale of the entire complex to a company in the American country. Surely many of you are already familiar with this case, which has been studied for several months.

As the North American Government stated at the time, the objective of all this is to protect the country’s citizens from possible foreign espionage. This is a law that was approved a few months ago and that obtained an overwhelming majority in the United States Congress. Specifically, the new law that we mentioned gives a period of 270 days to the owners of the aforementioned platform, in this case TikTok, to change owners, something that of course has not occurred on this social network.

TikTok’s position regarding its blockage in the United States

But of course, as expected, the parent company of the social platform has not stood still, we are talking about the company ByteDance. The firm argues that this blockade represents an obvious attack on freedom of expression in the North American country. However, the nine judges of the Supreme Court completely reject these arguments.

It must be taken into account that the main problem here is not the content of the social platform itself and its videos, but rather its owners from the Asian country, China. In fact, they claim that changing the content of the social network would not alter in the slightest the approval of the law to block TikTok in the United States, the problem comes from its ownership.

Precisely yesterday the stipulated 270 days were completed, so the blocking of the social network in the North American country is a reality. Now, perhaps at this point, many of the platform’s regular users are currently wondering what will happen in the rest of the countries. At the moment we do not know if similar measures will be taken in some countries of the old continent. But there is certainly no doubt that this decision by the North American Government is not at all beneficial for the future of TikTok.

Despite this and despite the fact that the 270 days stipulated by law have been met, for the moment the current President Trump has temporarily extended this period while waiting for the Chinese company to change its mind. Although it is unlikely that he will sell the social network to an American company, for now the veto will not be effective, although we do not know for how long.
