Kodi users can now access a new version which, yes, is causing problems among Windows users. In the next lines we will talk to you about the new features that this update introduces and what you need to know to be able to enjoy the version with good impressions and without suffering errors.
It’s been months since the last Kodi update was released. The main reason is that the software team is working hard on the future release of Kodi 22 Piers. However, they did not want to ignore the need to update the current version and have made Kodi 21.2 Omega available to users.
General news and changes
While there are some specs of the update that are directly attributed to particular versions of Kodi, some of the other changes are general. For example, performance has improved in the case of systems with UPnP NAS servers, where video playback is now carried out at a higher speed and with the possibility of playing multiple videos one after another. Also fixed is the issue with movie extras file names, where there were previously issues when using special characters. There are other minor changes and fixes, such as the “seen” or “unseen” marks being displayed conveniently in all sections of the program.
At the video level, Kodi has solved a good number of problems and errors that were occurring, such as failures when playing several HDR videos. Users who play Blu-ray movies, meanwhile, will find that there are no longer any problems displaying some menus. There are also other patches for minor errors that will help increase performance even if they are not significant on a day-to-day basis.
Improvements for each version
The most important thing to talk about is the version of Kodi 21.2 Omega on Windows. The developers of the program have fixed the issue where Kodi would close unexpectedly when using the Remote Desktop Protocol feature. Problems caused when the system includes some files with names longer than 64 characters have also been fixed. And, taking advantage of the Windows 11 24H2 update that took place a few months ago, Kodi has fixed several compatibility issues. Thanks to this, there are no longer any problems using HDR and better support for WCG displays has been introduced.
But, as we said, there is a problem in Windows that is causing Kodi to slam shut for no reason. Initially it was unknown what the reason could be, but Kodi has explained that the reason is that Visual C++ is not updated. Therefore, they ask users to update this system, as it is necessary so that Kodi add-ons do not cause problems. To solve the errors that you may be encountering, Kodi says that it is necessary to update Visual C++. For users who do not want to update to Kodi 21.2 and are encountering these problems in Kodi 21.1, the solution will also be to update Visual C++ or install it if you do not have the correct version. To keep things simple, Kodi has introduced the latest version of Visual C++ with the latest edition of the Kodi installer.
Additionally, all versions of Kodi have received changes and improvements. On Android, for example, joystick control has improved, while the error due to which the screen went black also disappears. For its part, in Linux the problem of memory corruption has been eliminated by using video scalers to improve image quality. Finally, two more comments. On Android, Kodi says that it is possible that not all users will receive the update at the same time. And, in general, remember that, before applying a new version like this, it is recommended to make a backup copy so that we do not have problems after applying the update.
