Janus Motorcycles is known for its preparations and its own design motorcycles. The North American company, based in Goshen, Indiana, is characterized by developing the frames and bodywork, which until now had been based on 250 cc single-cylinder engines.
And there, precisely, is where we find an important novelty. The Halcyon 450 incorporates a single-cylinder propeller of exactly 445 cc, which with mixed air-oil cooling, develops a maximum power of 30 CV at 7,500 rpm. This engine is a SWM, just like the SWM Six Days 500 that is currently marketed in Spain, called a couple of years ago Six Days 440.
Its classic aesthetic is in the same line as previous models of the young North American firm. You can see the care put into each and every one of its components. That image of another time is not disputed with the incorporation of modern peripheral elements. Thus, it equips a 280 mm floating front brake bitten by a Brembo caliper, the 220 mm rear, or the LCD digital instrument panel.
Another detail is, for example, its leather seat, which has the classic springs of yesteryear that served as rear suspension for the driver. But beware, if we look closely, just below we find a shock absorber attached at one end to the frame, and at the other to the upper arch of its swingarm. Both this and the chassis are made of steel, and are, as we mentioned before, of our own design. The peculiar front suspension system is also.
We would like to take a look at the controls of the 3 or 4 units that will be manufactured per week, to see how it behaves.
Be that as it may, it is clear that the Halcyon 450 has been designed to be ridden… But also admired. The purchase price is high, as it is a “hand made” motorcycle. Specifically, it stands at $13,500, which translated into euros is €12,170. That in its most basic version, since Janus has had a large number of accessories to be able to customize it to the consumer’s taste.
