SYM presents its new Jet X 125 ABS 2022, a fresh, casual scooter with a sporty touch that makes it stand out from the rest of the competitors in the segment… We have had the opportunity to test it during the national presentation held in Barcelona and these have been our impressions.
An urban and “youthful” segment
Barcelona has always been the city of the “Scoopy”, a scooter with a flat floor, large tires and which, even today, is seen as a reference within the city. But fashions evolve and together with the acclaimed Honda model, the offer within the brand itself and its rivals is on the rise. Without a doubt, both the Honda PCX 125 and the Yamaha NMAX are the references among those that do not have a “flat floor”, that is, scooters with a central tunnel that gives them less comfort…
Now a new alternative has arrived, the SYM Jet X 125, which comes as a reinforcement to a range where the flat-bottomed Jet 14 had been until now the clear bet for that public that likes more sporty models. With the X, things look even better and thanks to an aesthetic with clear traces of “Japanese Superbike”, they seek to break the mold against two more discreet rivals.

Breakthrough aesthetics…
Its aesthetic is groundbreaking, especially the front with full LED optics, and more daring than the Japanese with which it rivals. Nor is it far behind in equipment to which are added the keyless start with alarm, a large hole for the smartphone with a USB connector or the space under the seat where a full-face helmet fits. In this sense, the digital information screen with a black background stands out among a set where everything looks quite well finished.
However, the engine is undoubtedly one of its great arguments, a mechanism that works like clockwork, vibrates little, offers excellent throttle response and seems to have more horsepower than declared. A single-cylinder 4-stroke SOHC 4-valve inherited from the Symphony ST 125 LC that develops a power of 12.7 hp and a torque of 11.5 Nm. To shoot at a happy rhythm and without complications is more than enough, as I was able to corroborate during this national presentation and where we had the opportunity to shoot with the new Taiwanese product in a day with a route between the city and highway sections.

great dynamism
Smooth, dynamic and balanced are three of the adjectives that could be said of the Jet X 125 ABS. The ride quality is up to SYM products and despite not having top brand tires (CST), its dry grip is more than enough to allow you to brush with the side leg on inclines… For its part, the steering is it feels light and that makes rolling into city traffic easy. On faster roads, it surprises with its poise, with very well-tuned suspensions and where the double rear shock absorber -with preload regulation- shows perfect hydraulic settings to absorb breaks in the asphalt without problems.
In addition, I would highlight the good ergonomics at its controls and, despite the fact that the brake levers are somewhat hard and with an ABS that can become somewhat more intrusive than desired if we force the brakes to the limit, the dynamic behavior pleasantly surprises . Yes, perhaps in terms of visual quality of plastics and finishes it is a few tenths below a Japanese, but at the same level in general touch and poise.

What is missing in the equipment?
Although the Jet X 125 includes great equipment where, of course, the brand’s usual battery disconnector under the seat is not lacking, but the alarm is too sensitive and beeps all the time at the slightest movement of the scooter. If we forget to turn off the ignition, it will also beep and the only solution will be to press the remote control to cancel the sound after locking it. In addition, I missed the Start & Stop system for automatic engine stop that is equipped by its main rivals or the connectivity of the NMAX. Even so, this new model has great arguments to continue promoting the brand in our country, which is already in fourth place in sales, quite an achievement for Motos Bordoy, which has been importing the brand in Spain since 2004.
