They do not guarantee sufficient protection

As you know, children have to travel in the car using a Child Restraint System, mandatory until they exceed 135 centimeters. In some circumstances, child seat boosters can be used, but the OCU advises against them because they do not protect.

We know that the use of child seats is not very comfortable, because they are heavy and take up a lot of space, especially when children grow and larger models of groups 2 and 3 have to be used.

This causes many to replace the chairs with boosters, but, as the Organization of Users and Consumers warns, it is not a convenient decision, it can even be dangerous.

Booster seats for children are legal from the age of four and can be used when the minor exceeds 105 centimeters and exceeds 15 kilograms. However, the OCU advises against their use, considering that they do not guarantee sufficient protection in the event of a side impact, the most common type of collision in cities.

Instead of boosters, it is best to buy a child seat adapted to the child’s height, even if it has a clearly higher price than a booster.

On the other hand, although the use of the child seat is mandatory in Spain up to 135 centimeters in height, the OCU also recommends that its use be maintained up to 150 centimeters, as is the case in other European countries. In this way, children will travel more protected than using only the belt.

Likewise, the organization advises against the use of any device other than the seat, such as double belts, extenders or harness buckle protectors, since none of these products is approved and, in an emergency, they can slow down the operation of untied from the child.
