– Andrew Jacob
Yes, we are a car magazine, but we are passionate about anything with wheels. In addition to traveling thousands of kilometers a year by car, I also do thousands of kilometers (yes, thousands) by bicycle, so I think I have some criteria to present you with 5 perfect mountain bikes to learn this summer.
And since I am going to recommend, I have decided to stay in the national territory and show off what is offered in Spain, that is, the ones that, according to my criteria, are the 5 best mountain bikes to learn on these holidays.
Surely you don’t even know some brands and they aren’t all there are, because there are others like Mondraker (yes, it’s Spanish), Massi, Megamo or Berria that I’m not going to talk about because they offer higher-end bikes that don’t fit what we are looking for here.
The models that we propose here are not the cheapest that you can find on the market, but rather represent a more or less important investment, but reasonable depending on their equipment.
The characteristics common to all of them are: aluminum frame, single-plate transmission (it is the most recommended, because you save weight and avoid possible breakdowns) and geometry that is not too radical, which implies that you should not go too far lying down and, therefore, supposes a greater comfort.
We start with the list of the 5 best MTBs to learn.
MMR woki
The Asturian brand could not be left out in this selection of bikes made by a car magazine, since one of its managers ran in rallies. Hence, you have been able to see cars sponsored by this brand. I put it first not by chance, but because it is one of the best by design (very clean and with wiring hidden inside the frame) and components.
It comes mounted with 100mm RockShox Judy Silver Air suspension, Shimano XT 12V rear derailleur, Shimano Deore shifters, 32-tooth chainring and 11-50 cassette. Not forgetting Ritchey handlebars, stem and steering.
Price: 1,050 euros
WRC Pro Deore 29″ XT
Conor is the brand from Pamplona that manufactures this range of bicycles under the name WRC. Brand known for offering quality products at a reasonable price. That is the case of the WRC Pro Deore 29″ XT.
It comes equipped with Rock Shox Judy Silver TK RL 100mm Air suspension, Shimano XT 12V rear derailleur, Shimano Deore push buttons, 32-tooth chainring and 10-51 cassette.
Price: 1,050 euros. The WRC Comp SX costs €850, but is not available at the moment.
Victoria Ergos
Brand from Albacete (don’t be fooled by the name), whose chosen model is the Vitoria Ergos. And don’t be fooled by that exposed wiring, either, because it’s one of the best-equipped in this group.
It comes equipped with Rock Shox Judy Silver TK RL 100mm Air suspension, Sram SX 12V rear derailleur, Sram SX push buttons, 32-tooth chainring and 10-50 cassette.
Price: 1,129 euros
BH Spike 3.0
The well-known BH is indeed from Vitoria. A long-standing brand in constant evolution, which, like others on this list, develops its bicycles with its own competition team on the international circuit. The model chosen here is the BH Spike 3.0.
It comes equipped with SR Suntour Raidon RLR Remote Lock 100mm suspension, Shimano Deore 11V rear derailleur, Shimano Deore shifters, 30-tooth chainring and 11-51 cassette.
Price: 879 euros
Orbea Onna 20
We finish this list with the 5 perfect mountain bikes to learn this summer with the most prestigious Spanish brand, Orbea. Yes, forget about those nonsense and popular sayings of “orbea, the one that always breaks down”. The Basque brand is a benchmark in our country and, especially, outside of it.
Specifically, we recommend the Orbea Onna, which comes equipped with SR Suntour XCR Air suspension, Shimano Deore Shadow Plus 10V gear, Shimano Deore push buttons, 30-tooth chainring and 11-46 cassette.
Price: 999 euros
