Has the BMW M3 Touring been the most anticipated ‘M’ model in history? Difficult to say categorically, but it must be in the discussion for the position. Of course, the wait has been worth it and the most versatile sports car in the history of BMW has entered through the front door: it will also be a MotoGP Safety Car.
It will debut at the Silverstone Grand Prix in August and, as usual, will wear the brand’s usual colors to fulfill its duties.
Thus, the main color is white, but it is sprinkled with the characteristic tones of M Motorsport: light blue, navy blue and red. In addition, it sports specific graphics (including a sign for 50 years of BMW M), lights integrated into the grille and a light bar on the roof, in addition to multiple elements of M Performance accessories.
Its mechanical section is identical to the street model, that is, a 3.0 biturbo block of 510 hp and 650 Nm with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and its top speed reaches 280 km/h if you mount the M Driver’s Package. And all this with up to 1,510 liters of trunk.
The relationship between the German brand and the motorcycle championship goes back a long way, specifically from 1999 and the M3 Touring is the latest model to join a long list of vehicles that have already played this role.
Without going any further, currently the BMW fleet for MotoGP also includes the standard M3, the M4, the M2 CS, the M5 CS Racing and even a couple of BMW M 1000 RR; to which is added the i40 M50 that does the same work for MotoE.
Lastly, we should also remember another highlight of the still short life of the BMW M3 Touring: it has set the lap record for station wagons at the Nürburgring, setting a time of 7:35.060 minutes.
