Each new product that Tesla presents generates a certain stir, but the truth is that one of its latest creations has gone somewhat unnoticed: it is a new trailer loaded with solar panels and also has a satellite internet connection.
The idea has been presented at the IdeenExpo in Hanover, Germany, and at the moment it seems that it is a prototype, but it should not be ruled out that it will reach production, especially when the Tesla Cybertruck begins to be sold, since, both for concept as by design, it fits quite well with the pick-up.
The trailer has a fairly conventional format, with a hitch and two wheels, but the entire upper part of its structure is made up of solar panels. Not only that, but two other “plates” can also be extracted from under this one, also with their own photovoltaic cells, which triples the amount of sun they can collect.
Although it has not been specified, the logical thing is that the “unfolded” position can only operate when the vehicle is stopped, although while it is driving it can continue to recharge energy, even if it is at a third of its potential capacity.
Of the few technical data that have been released, the most relevant is that it does not have a stationary battery, so it cannot act as a portable “battery” with extra stored energy. It is simply a recharging method for car batteries, be it a Tesla Model S, a Tesla Model 3, a Tesla Model X or a Tesla Model Y.
However, it seems that it is an even more useful system for a model like the Cybertruck (when it arrives), since the pick-up already has plans to become a camper, so having solar panels, even if it is a trailer, to be able to recharge and not get stranded in the middle of nowhere, sounds like a good plan.
In addition, the Tesla trailer also has another interesting feature: it has a satellite connection with Starlink, so it can provide access to the Internet no matter where you are.
