SELF BILD

Which is better, the Mercedes EQA or the Volkswagen ID.3? We analyze what each of these electric cars offers and choose the best purchase option.

Electric cars are becoming more and more common in the market. Manufacturers are getting their act together and launching new models to try to meet the needs of drivers. For this reason, it is increasingly difficult to choose the vehicle that best suits your preferences, even in the most premium segments where the Mercedes EQA and the Volkswagen ID.3 are.

Today we are going to face them in a technical comparison based strictly on figures and data approved by their respective manufacturers to try to define which is the best. In it we will analyze sections such as the dimensions, the trunk, the engines, the standard equipment and the prices. At the end we will expose the strengths of each model.

Dimensions

Let’s start with the Mercedes EQA and its exterior dimensions. The star firm’s compact electric SUV measures 4,465 mm long, 1,835 mm wide and 1,620 mm high, all on a platform with a 2,730 mm wheelbase.

On the other hand, the Volkswagen ID.3 is an electric car, but with a more compact C-segment approach. Hence, the dimensions of this model are 4,260 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm high. , with a wheelbase that reaches 2,770 mm.

Trunk

The trunk is an important point in the purchase decision process regardless of the powertrain the vehicle is equipped with. In the case of the Mercedes model, we are talking about a trunk with a volumetric capacity of 340 liters, a figure that can increase to 1,320 liters just by folding down the rear seats.

The Volkswagen electric does the same and its exterior measurements allow it to have a trunk with 385 liters of capacity. The backrests of the rear seats are also folding, so the cargo volume grows to 1,265 liters when folded.

Engines

The mechanical offer of the EQA is made up of four engines. The 140 kW (190 PS) EQA 250 is offered in two versions, with 66.5 kWh of battery capacity and 493 km of autonomy, and with 70.5 kWh and up to 530 km of range. The EQA 300 4Matic increases power to 168 kW (228 hp) and the EQA 350 4Matic has 215 kW (292 hp), both with two motors, 436 km range and a 66.5 kWh battery.

For its part, the ID.3 is available with a single engine. It is equipped with a 150 kW (204 hp) rear-wheel drive electric motor with two battery options. The first is 58 kWh with a range of 415 km, and the second is 77 kWh and an approved range of up to 549 kilometers on a single charge.

Standard equipment

With regard to the standard equipment of the Mercedes EQA we find 18-inch wheels, imitation leather upholstery, heated seats, air conditioning, lane departure detector, driving modes, navigation, 10.25-inch touch screen, headlights LED, ambient lighting, electric tailgate, reversing camera and digital radio, among others.

Meanwhile, the Volkswagen ID.3 (Life finish) has 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, ambient lighting, emergency braking with pedestrian detection, heated front seats, climate control, adaptive cruise control, rear view camera, lane keeping warning, assisted parking, recognition of traffic signs and navigation, among others.

The trunk offers 45 liters more volumetric capacity in the Volkswagen, although the Mercedes model has 55 liters more cargo volume with the rear seats folded down.

On a mechanical level, the range is broader, more varied and more powerful in the EQA, which offers up to four different versions and the possibility of four-wheel drive. In terms of homologated range, the ID.3 comes out on top in its 77 kWh battery version, although the 58 kWh entry version has less range than any other EQA variant.
