How are the two bodies of the Citroën Berlingo 2022 different? Citroën’s light van offers two options and these are their main differences.
The third generation of the Citroën Berlingo was presented in 2018 and was accompanied by two different body options. Since then, Citroën’s light van has become a commercial success for the brand. If you are thinking of buying one and you know how the two bodies of the Citroën Berlingo 2022 differ, here we clarify your doubts.
Despite having been on the market for just under four years, the Berlingo has faced in 2022 the most important change in the history of the model. It was initially available with diesel and gasoline engines, as well as a 100% electric version. However, Citroën has decided to stop marketing the combustion engine versions and will focus only on the plug-in variant.
This has caused some controversy, especially among the brand’s dealers who fear that this decision will be a serious setback to the sales of a model that is well received. The difference in price and the limitations that the driver of an electric car may face could cause the buyer to opt for another model before facing the challenge.
Even so, if you are going to buy a new Citroën Berlingo (you can also do it on the second-hand market), you should know that only orders for the ë-Berlingo are now accepted, although the electric version is still available with the two body versions that offered the model since its market launch in 2018.
How are the two bodies of the Citroën Berlingo 2022 different?
So what are the main differences? The signature of the two chevrons states that the Berlingo “is available in two lengths with controlled dimensions and balanced lines. Both are available in 5- and 7-seater versions and offer an optimum level of comfort. Size XL is 35cm longer than size M thanks to its longer wheelbase and rear overhang.”
The 2022 Berlingo is available in two body options, dubbed M and XL. The main difference is found in the length of its bodywork and in the wheelbase of its platform. Thus, the Berlingo M has a length of 4,403 mm and a wheelbase of 2,785 mm, while the Berlingo XL 4,750 mm and 2,970 mm, respectively.

This means that the “long” Berlingo offers 343mm more body length and 185mm more wheelbase than the “short” version. This is directly reflected in the habitability of its interior. There are versions, in both cases, with five and seven seats, but the XL version offers more space for the legs, especially in the third row (sixth and seventh seats).
It is also directly reflected in the volumetric capacity of the trunk. In the case of the M version of the Berlingo, the trunk has a volume of 597 liters with five seats, while the XL variant reaches 850 liters with the same number of seats. This is more than 250 additional liters in a boot that, in both cases, can be expanded by folding down the rear seats.
Only available in 100% electric version
As I told you at the beginning of the analysis of the Citroën Berlingo 2022 and its two bodies, from this year it will only be available in its 100% electric version, the ë-Berlingo. This variant is equipped with an electric motor with 100 kW (136 hp) of power and 260 Nm of maximum torque. Power comes from a 50 kWh capacity lithium-ion battery.
With this configuration, the electric Berlingo can travel up to 280 kilometers on a single charge, according to the figures approved by the WLTP cycle. It also supports fast charging of up to 100 kW, which allows you to go from 10% to 80% of the charge level in 30 minutes. For its part, Citroën offers a guarantee of 8 years or 160,000 kilometers at 70% of the battery’s charge capacity.
The Citroën ë-Berlingo has a starting price for Spain of 29,868 euros excluding VAT.
