It will be presented tomorrow at the European Athletics Championships

With the Mini Recharged Lakwena, London-based artist Lakwena Maciver has created a work of art full of colour, joy and ‘BIG LOVE’. This year, the British brand wanted to celebrate diversity with a colorful, noisy and bright vehicle.

To the eye of the beholder, this little car is an electrified showpiece that literally bursts with color and pattern. The London creator has redesigned the 1986 car, transforming it into an ambassador for the Mini Recharged project, in which the combustion engine was replaced by a new electric drive, a partner of Mini Recharge Heritage Ltd.

Following the model of British fashion designer Paul Smith, this is already the second Mini Recharged to be transformed into a work of art.

The collaboration between Lakwena and Mini began two years ago. Recently, she has painted a gray skyscraper facade in Munich during the IAA Mobility 2021 motor show, expressing the joy of living and the central motto of the English brand with her mural ‘BIG LOVE’.

For the artist from London, British culture is highly influenced by the experience through the long journeys that many people have made. The design of the Mini Recharged Lakwena celebrates the diverse journeys and paths of different people with bright motifs and colours.

“I hope that this Mini Recharged makes people feel good and puts a smile on their face. More than a car, it is a festival of colors of cultures,” explains the artist.

Lakwena’s artwork will be presented tomorrow at this year’s European Athletics Championships, to be held in Munich from 11 to 21 August, where the BMW Group, with its BMW, BMW Motorrad and Mini brands, is an official sponsor. .

There you can also see the special editions of cars designed by Paul Smith and David Bowie for Mini’s 40th anniversary in 1999. Fans of this brand can discover a different and special model in the sponsor area with the “Car of the day” in the eleven days of the event and share them with selfies in front of the distinctive ‘BIG LOVE’ slogans on the vehicles.

Lakwena is a British-Ugandan artist, who has worked with some of the world’s most recognized brands. We can still contemplate one of her murals in English territory as well as observe her collaborations with Nike or Fiorucci, so Mini deserved no less than an artist at the level of the car that bears her name.
