The Alfa Romeo Stelvio arrived with the aim of placing the Italian brand among the benchmarks in this category, betting on the typical passionate design of the Italians, but in an SUV format, combined with a sporty driving feel, as is usual in the brand of the Biscion.

Five years after its launch, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2023 arrives, whose marketing will begin next February, along with its brother, the Alfa Romeo Giulia 2023.

And it does so with important innovations in terms of equipment, technological solutions and safety, as well as some aesthetic changes. Instead, the range of engines remains unchanged.

On the aesthetic level, the new Stelvio combines the present with the history of the brand, by inheriting some features of the Alfa Romeo Tonale, such as the new “trilobe” grille and the Full LED adaptive matrix headlights, with “3+3” lights that , in turn, evoke the Alfa Romeo SZ Zagato.

The headlights present an important novelty. They now include the AFS system (Adaptive Front Lighting System), which regulates the dipped beam depending on speed and driving conditions, and the Glare-Free High Beam Segmented Technology function, which automatically detects vehicles traveling in both directions. so as not to dazzle them, in addition to the “Hello” and “Goodbye” functions.

As for the rear area, the new Stelvio 2023 has new glass LED headlights with a transparent finish. For the rest, the changes are negligible, except for the new sets of wheels.

Inside the Italian SUV we find a new fully digital instrument panel, through a 12.3-inch TFT screen configurable in three modes, Evolved, Relax and Heritage.

However, the digital screen retains a classic dial design, as we saw on the Tonale. From this screen you can access all the vehicle information and the parameters related to the autonomous driving systems.

No mechanical news

The new Stelvio does not introduce new features in the mechanical section, so the 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine with 160 and 210 hp and the 2.0-liter petrol block with 200 and 280 hp will continue to be offered.

All are linked to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox and only the less powerful versions have rear-wheel drive. The others have all-wheel drive.

The only novelty is that the less powerful diesel engine with rear-wheel drive is now also offered in the top-of-the-range versions.

At the chassis level, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio has a series of elements that guarantee excellent dynamic behavior, thanks to the use of ultralight materials, such as aluminum and carbon, from the world of racing.

Versions equipped with Q4 all-wheel drive feature an ATC active transfer system that, under normal conditions, transfers torque to the rear wheels and can transfer up to 50% to the front axle.

Depending on the version, it can be equipped with a mechanical limited-slip differential and a limited-slip differential to improve the agility and sporty character of the vehicle.

It is completed with an Alfa Link suspension, made up of a double wishbone suspension with a semi-virtual steering axis at the front and a four-and-a-half link Multilink solution at the rear.

An example of connectivity is the “My Remote” function, which includes services, such as the possibility of controlling the opening and closing of doors or the indicators remotely, from the mobile.

An important novelty is that the Italian SUV now has the NFT (Non-Fungible-Token) certificate, a technology that the Italian brand premiered in the Tonale and which consists of an encrypted and unalterable digital record where the essential information of each vehicle is stored. car.

In terms of safety, the new model benefits from new ADAS functions that provide level 2 autonomous driving. This means that the driver can let the vehicle control the accelerator, brake and steering wheel in certain circumstances, through electronic systems that require constant supervision.
