This is all that is known so far about the 20-cent discount on gasoline for the self-employed in 2023. Will it be extended to next year? Will it be for all freelancers?

The 20-cent discount on fuel is a measure that all drivers have been benefiting from since April 1. However, the end of this discount on gasoline and diesel already has an end date and the Executive is evaluating whether to extend this reduction beyond December 31 or focus the aid only on some groups.

Specifically, the 20-cent discount on gasoline could focus on the self-employed by 2023, and all that is known to date is that the Government of Pedro Sánchez is studying the possibility of extending this discount to 2023 for the entire Spanish society or focusing it on the workers who carry out an activity on their own account related to transport.

According to the Autonomous and Entrepreneurial portal, the discount on fuel will continue beyond December 31. Quoting José Carlos López Jato, vice president of the Spanish Federation of Autonomous Carriers (Fetransa), “the debate is not whether they are going to be extended, it is whether they are going to discriminate against certain groups.”

The federation spokesman explains that this discount “perhaps does not exist for citizens or some types of self-employed, but it does for all those who use the vehicle daily to work.”

For her part, the Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, pointed out that the Government will evaluate “between now and the end of the year”, if it maintains this fuel price bonus for all drivers or if “it is better to focus on some collective or some sector.

Raquel Sánchez, Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, assured in an interview that the discount of 20 cents per liter could remain in force in 2023. The minister pointed out that this measure “could be extended” and specified that when the date arrives they will analyze how is working and they will decide whether to extend it or reconvert it.

For the self-employed worker, this type of reduction in a fixed cost such as fuel, represents a relief in the monthly fuel bill. For this reason, all self-employed workers hope that this measure will also be extended to 2023, especially since the war in Ukraine does not seem to have an end soon.
