Which is better, the Opel Grandland or the Nissan Qashqai? We analyze what each of these models can offer and choose the best purchase option.

The compact SUV segment is the most competitive of all. They are vehicles that offer a good size and habitability, engines with decent power and still affordable prices. However, there are quite a few options to choose from and it’s not always easy to get it right. Today we offer you two very interesting models, the Opel Grandland and the Nissan Qashqai, and we show you which one is better.

To face them we are going to make a technical comparison with official and approved data, where we will analyze aspects such as the dimensions, the trunk, the range of engines, the standard equipment and the prices. At the end we will draw some conclusions with the strengths of each model that will help you better guide the purchase.

Vauxhall Grandland

The Opel Grandland is the largest SUV of the lightning firm. It is built on a platform from Stellantis that underpins other models such as the Peugeot 3008. It was launched in 2017 and has recently undergone a major mid-cycle update with several new features, including the removal of the X in its name.

Starting with the dimensions, the Opel SUV features a body 4,475mm long, 1,855mm wide and 1,610mm high, all on a 2,675mm wheelbase platform. Five passengers can travel inside and it has a 515-litre boot that can be expanded to 1,650 liters by folding down the rear seats.

With regard to engines, the Grandland offer includes the 130 hp 1.2 Turbo and the 130 hp 1.5 diesel. There are also two plug-in hybrids, one with 225 hp and 56 km of electric range, and another with 300 hp and 59 km of range. The changes are manual or automatic up to eight speeds, and all versions are front-wheel drive except for the 300 hp hybrid, which is 4×4.

Among the standard equipment of the Business Edition version of access to the range there is ISOFIX anchorage, ambient lights, light and rain sensor, two-zone climate control, cruise control, 17-inch wheels, comfort front seats and wireless charging point for mobile devices, among others.

As for prices, the Opel Grandland Business Edition 1.2 Turbo 130 hp with six-speed manual transmission is available from 30,476 euros.

The third generation of the Nissan Qashqai was presented in 2021. This new model arrives to try to continue leading the compact SUV segment and is the intermediate-size model within the Japanese manufacturer’s range. This new generation stands out for its design, standard equipment and electrified engines.

If we start by analyzing the measurements of the Nissan model, we have a vehicle with a length of 4,425 mm, a width of 1,850 mm, a height of 1,625 mm and a wheelbase of 2,665 mm. Five people can also travel on board and it has a trunk that offers 505 liters of expandable volumetric capacity up to 1,450 liters by folding down the rear seats.

The Qashqai engine family is made up of the 1.3 DiG-T petrol engine with mild hybrid technology that offers two power levels, 140 hp and 158 hp. To these must be added a third hybrid mechanic called ePower of 140 kW (190 hp). There are six-speed manual and X-Tronic automatic transmissions, as well as front- and all-wheel-drive versions.

Among the standard equipment of the Acenta version there are 17-inch alloy wheels, emergency braking, frontal collision and lane departure warning, blind spot control, parking sensors, ISOFIX, electric parking brake, multimedia system with 8-inch screen, driving modes, two-zone climate control and LED headlights, among others.

And with regard to prices, the Nissan Qashqai Acenta 1.3 DIG-T 140 hp MHEV with six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive is available in Spain from 26,675 euros.

Conclution

The Opel Grandland is 50mm longer, 5mm wider and 15mm lower than the Nissan Qashqai, with a 10mm longer wheelbase than the Japanese SUV. This means that it also offers more luggage space with both five and two seats, 10 and 200 liters more, respectively.

The range of engines is also wider in number, fuel options and power in the Opel model. Its two plug-in hybrid versions stand out mainly, while in the Nissan it is striking that the entire range has been electrified and the ePower variant, which is an extended-range electric with a gasoline engine as a generator (it does not drive the wheels).

On the other hand, the standard equipment is more complete in the Qashqai from the most basic trim level. The same goes for prices, with the Japanese model being almost 4,000 euros cheaper in its output variant.
