Saif Muhammad bin Salim, son of the president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Mohammed Ben Sulayem, has died after suffering a traffic accident on Tuesday March 7 in Dubai.

According to the United Arab Emirates media, Saif was involved in a traffic accident and could not overcome the injuries sustained. Although the news has not been confirmed by any member of the family, it has been published in various media and by the Middle East Federation, which has expressed its condolences to the president.

Ben Sulayem’s son, like his father, was a racing driver. In the 2016-2017 period, Saif participated in the inaugural season of Formula 4 in the United Arab Emirates. He only competed for one year, in which he finished in twelfth position in the overall championship standings, with two seventh places as the best result.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem has served as FIA President since the end of 2020, when he took over from Jean Todt. As a driver, he dominated the Middle East Rally Championship for two decades, winning up to 14 titles, and winning events such as the Dubai, Oman and Qatar Rally, and also participated with good results within his category in other World Cup events.

After his career as a pilot, he has held important positions such as vice president of the FIA ​​or the presidency of the United Arab Emirates Automobile Club, being key in the dispute of such important events in the region as the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix. or the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.
