The General Directorate of Traffic estimates that in the three days that the San José Bridge lasts there will be more than five million road trips
Monday March 20 is a holiday in the Community of Madrid. The celebration of Father’s Day on Sunday March 19 is moved to Monday, with which many people from Madrid will take the opportunity to travel. The DGT has prepared the San José Special Traffic Operation, an operation that starts today, Friday, and lasts for three days.
In addition to Madrid, this weekend traffic will intensify in the Valencian Community where one of the most popular national festivals is celebrated, Las Fallas; so this will be another hot spot for highway surveillance.
San José Bridge Special Traffic Operation
The DGT forecasts indicate that from today until the evening of Monday, March 20, more than five million trips will be recorded on Spanish roads. Traffic movements will be especially relevant in the Community of Madrid, where Monday is also a public holiday, and Valencia, on the occasion of the Fallas.
“Taking these forecasts into account, there may be occasional delays leaving the capital on Friday afternoon, and on Saturday morning, on the main highways, highlighting the A-3 to the east,” the DGT anticipates. . “Similar situation, it can occur on Monday afternoon of entry to the capital,” they add.
Measures to monitor traffic until March 20
To monitor and take care of traffic during these days, the DGT will deploy the “human and material resources at its disposal”. This means that there will be a reinforcement of the presence of the Traffic agents of the Civil Guard and that fixed, mobile and section radars will be used to monitor speeding.
The cameras that monitor the use of seat belts and mobile phones will also be operational; as well as drones and helicopters (one less than usual after last week’s accident).
To minimize traffic jams, there will be special traffic regulation measures such as additional lanes, restrictions on the movement of trucks, stoppage of works and limitation of sports events and other events that involve the occupation of the road.
