Volkswagen has presented the prototype of the new electric car with a recognizable aesthetic and with a price that will be less than 25,000 euros.

The German brand has taken a step back with the aesthetics of its electric cars and has presented the new Volkswagen ID. 2all. This is the first work for VW’s new chief designer, Andreas Mindt, who has sought to create a recognizable car.

The problem with cars like the Volkswagen ID.3 or the ID.4 has been an aesthetic that is too different from what the brand’s customers and the general public are used to. Therefore, this new ID. 2all takes elements from the VW Golf and Polo to present something different.

The VW ID. 2all will cost less than 25,000 euros with 450 km of autonomy

This Volkswagen is going to settle on the MEB Entry platform, an evolution of the current one. The electric vehicle will have up to 450 kilometers of autonomy with an electric motor on the front axle that will produce 226 CV of power.

Although there are no specific performance figures yet, we do know that it will do 0 to 100 km/h in less than 7.0 seconds. In addition, Kai Grünitz (member of the VW Development Board) has confirmed to Top Gear BBC that they are working on a front-wheel drive sports version.

It’s too early to tell if that step back in design will also put the GTI and GTX concepts face to face. Good news, in any case, for lovers of sports compacts. At the moment, this ID. 2all is already faster than the Golf GTI MK.5.

It will measure 4,050 mm long, 1,812 mm wide and 1,530 mm high. Slightly wider and taller than the latest Volkswagen Golf MK.8, although it is 23.7 centimeters shorter. All this without sacrificing a boot capacity of 490 liters expandable up to 1,330 liters.

At the design level, the front and rear infinite lights stand out with the illuminated Volkswagen emblems, as well as a fine line of LEDs in the mirrors, which have been greatly refined. On the other hand, the profile of the car gains presence with 20-inch wheels and closely resembles that of a three-door Golf MK.6.

This has been achieved by removing the rear door handles and achieving an elegant junction with the C-pillar thanks to a line that comes from the front wing and curves up behind the window.

Inside we find a very modern and elegant cabin where Volkswagen will fight to redeem itself. The digital instrument panel grows a lot and the multimedia screen also increases in size. All this without sacrificing the return of many physical buttons, which have been greatly missed in the models of recent years.

As a curiosity, images have been seen in which the instrument panel can be configured with vintage styles such as the analog indicators of the Volkswagen Golf MK.1… A great detail for lovers of classic cars!

The production version will be presented in 2025 and will be one of the 10 new electric cars that Volkswagen is going to announce by 2026, where another EV vehicle for less than 20,000 euros will become very important.
