Mercedes-AMG SL 2022

The elegant 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL is even sportier with Manhart. The German coach has done his thing and presents us with his vision of the new AMG roadster.

That the new Mercedes-AMG SL was a crush is something I will never deny. Its spectacular design is a masterpiece accompanied by characteristic AMG tuning. What more could you ask for? Well, although it is quite difficult to beat at first glance, the elegant Mercedes-AMG SL 2022 is even sportier after passing through the hands of Manhart.

The German tuner, known primarily for his work on BMW models, from time to time gets carried away and experiments with Affalterbach products. The result, as you can imagine, is anything but discreet, with that extra dose of sportiness that Manhart gives to any vehicle that goes through his tuning shop.

Officially called Manhart SL 800 R, the latest work from the Teutonic tuner is, for the moment, a preview of a set of modifications that the company is preparing for the new generation of the SL. And, as you can imagine, the improvements not only affect the aesthetic section. Manhart has not overlooked the twin-turbocharged V8 of the new AMG product.

Starting with the exterior, the tuner added a new set of larger diameter six-spoke Concave One wheels and gold graphics based on a black paint job that washes over the curves of the new AMG SL. The factory body kit is pretty aggressive, so Manhart blacked out the Mercedes logo and wide Panamericana grille.

The finishing touch is given by a lowered suspension that is set to improve the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL’s handling. While we don’t have interior details, you’d expect some specific changes, like new upholstery, an extra dose of carbon fiber, floor mats, contrast stitching and some trainer logos.

The second part of Manhart’s work is concentrated under the hood. The company took the new SL 63’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which originally delivered 585PS of power and 800Nm of torque, and pumped it up a notch to an impressive 800PS and 1,000Nm of torque.

These figures can be achieved after installing a couple of new turbochargers, an intercooler, a carbon intake and some adjustments to the ECU. The engine is still associated with a nine-speed automatic transmission and a 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. We don’t know how fast it is now from 0 to 100 km/h, but as standard it already completes the sprint in just 3.6 seconds.

New details and images, as well as prices for all upgrades, about Manhart’s work on the new 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL will be released soon.
