Video: this is how Manhart’s 450 hp Volkswagen Golf R reaches 288 km/h

In the following video you can see how Manhart’s 450 hp Volkswagen Golf R reaches a top speed of 288 km/h on the Autobahn.

A compact car that can reach speeds close to 300 km/h is something that was hard to imagine a few years ago. However, the evolution of engines has allowed lower segment vehicles to become fast rockets. For demonstration the following video, where Manhart’s 450 CV Volkswagen Golf R reaches 288 km/h in a section without speed limit of the Autobahn.

The vehicle in question is a seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf R, specifically the restyling model that received some styling changes in 2017. On the other hand, Manhart, a German preparer specializing mainly in BMW products, did not hesitate to work his magic on the sports compact and increase its power by 50%.

To make this possible, Manhart tweaked the engine’s ECU and added a carbon intake kit and custom exhaust. Now, the 2.0 TSI four-cylinder engine has seen a power increase of 150 hp and torque of 100 Nm, from the original 300 hp and 400 Nm to a more than respectable 450 hp and 500 Nm of torque.

The propellant is still linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission, in turn connected to a 4Motion all-wheel drive system. From the factory, the Golf R Mk7 was capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and reaching an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The YouTube channel AutoTopNL was able to meet again with Manhart’s 450 hp Golf R almost two years later (here you will find its first contact in which it already reached 283 km/h), to squeeze all its potential in a stretch without speed limit of the famous German Autobahn.

The result, as you will see in the video, is a top speed of 288 km/h (marker, 277 km/h according to GPS). At this point, and despite not reaching 7,000 rpm as in the previous gear changes, the DSG engages the seventh gear and the engine reaches what seems to be some kind of electronic limitation, since it does not continue accelerating.

Despite this, and that we are sure that the engine has enough power to scratch a few more kilometers from the speedometer, it is a really impressive figure if we consider that it is still a Volkswagen Golf. Don’t miss the video.
