Here you have the test of the Maserati Grecale 2022, the new SUV from the Italian firm that arrives this year with up to 530 hp under the hood and that starts at 81,050 euros. It measures 4.85 in length, 1.98 in width and 1.67 in height, with a wheelbase of 2.9 meters.

As soon as you see it, without going any further, you see that it has Maserati’s own DNA. A giant concave grill, huge wheels and perforated steel discs, which will not be carbon-ceramic in any of the possible variants.

Behind, what is striking is its huge C-pillar where we meet again with the mythical trident. The tailgate is very large, it has elegant taillights (split in two with the tailgate), a fairly raked window and a prominent roof spoiler that gives it energy. Cargo volume is 535 litres.

If we talk about sportiness, the four exhaust outlets and the diffuser are already enough proof to denote that I have before me a dynamic SUV (although it has to prove it).

Inside, a first glance makes it clear that Maserati has taken a huge step forward: it is modern and highly digitized. It has up to five screens. Namely: the one for the instrumentation, the one for the center console, another one just below for the air conditioning, the Head Up Display and the small clock screen.

Test Maserati Grecale

In terms of amplitude you will not have fault, since it has generous rear seats, where two adults will find centimeters to spare both for the head and for the knees.

Let’s talk about engines

I focus on the engine that animates this Maserati Grecale. There are three power levels to match the three versions available: GT, Modena and Trophy. The first has a gasoline engine with Mild Hybrid technology with two liters of displacement, a four-cylinder turbo that offers 300 CV and 450 Nm of maximum torque. It accelerates in 5.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and has a top speed of 240 km/h. Traction is always four-wheel drive and the gearbox is an 8-speed automatic, as in the other Grecale versions.

Next on the list is the protagonist of this test, the Maserati Grecale Modena, which has 330 hp and 450 Nm derived from the same four-cylinder block: it completes 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and reaches 240 km/h. h.

In the most powerful step is the Grecale Trofeo version. It features a 3.0 V6 biturbo engine with 530 hp and 620 Nm. It has an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 285 km/h. In case you were wondering, it is the same block as the Maserati MC20, but more docile. It should be added that these last two versions (Modena and Trofeo) also have a limited-slip rear differential.

Do you want to see how the Maserati Grecale spends them? Press play, although before I leave you the prices: part of the 81,050 euros of the GT variant, going through the 96,100 euros of the Modena up to the 124,750 of the Trophy. By 2023, the 100% electric version is expected, the Maserati Grecale Folgore, with a 105 kWh battery running at 400 volts, which will power 2 electric motors to achieve 544 hp (400 kW) and 800 Nm of torque.
