Instagram has approximately 24 million active users in Spain, according to data collected by The Social Media Family. Although ‘Stories’ and ‘Reels’ have gained weight in recent years, much of their success is due to the fact that it is an application focused mainly on photography. Now, it seems that they want to reward the best photos.

User Alessandro Paluzzi, mobile developer and reverse engineering expert, is known on X for leaking the news they are preparing for Instagram. Thanks to his publications, we can find out before it becomes official the functions that we will enjoy in the future on the platform. The latest to be known consists of photography contests.

Instagram ‘Challenges’

In the image that Paluzzi has shared, it is detailed that the name of the function is ‘Challenges’, which means ‘Challenges’ in English. Her post indicates that any Instagram member will be able to create a photography contest on Instagram.

As you can read, members will be able to report on the contest, react to participants’ photos and share them. In addition, they may end a ‘Challenge’ early, eliminating the challenge at any time.

Once the contest ends, it is the creator himself who decides who the winners are and what prize they want to give. Instagram developers are working so that anyone can participate in the challenges, but members themselves will be able to add certain requirements, such as participants being of legal age or being followers.

Initially, ‘Challenges’ will be designed so that Internet users can compete both in stories or messages as well as in publications or in other applications. However, there is no more information about this at the moment, so it is unknown what other apps they refer to.

We will have to wait for the feature to be announced and officially launched to discover everything new that will come with it. Paluzzi has clarified in a comment to her post that ‘Challenges’ is available in the beta version of Instagram. However, it is likely to take time to arrive for everyone.

An incentive to upload more photos

Instagram brought its short video feature ‘Reels’ in August 2020. Through it, they intended to compete with the rise of TikTok, a platform that was increasingly interesting among young people and teenagers.

Although ‘Reels’ have not prevented TikTok from continuing to grow in recent years, as has happened with ‘Stories’ and Snapchat, there are more and more users who prefer to upload videos over photos on the platform. Through photo contests, Meta developers could be trying to get their consumers to continue taking advantage of the ability to post photos.

Photos Instagram Feed

Since the application was launched in 2010, its popularity has been largely due to the photographs that Internet users uploaded to their profiles. With the arrival of ‘Stories’, Internet users stopped publishing so much fixed content and began to prefer to share their moments of the day for only 24 hours.

Meta has embraced this new dynamic of its consumers, so much so that it launched a feature that allowed ‘Stories’ to be highlighted forever. However, they still want users to opt for infinite scrolling on their social network and, although ‘Reels’ are a good option for this, they now also intend to encourage the return of photographs to the feed thanks to contests.
