Hybrid cars for renting, this is how it is managed and these are the cheapest

Leasing is a formula that is gaining more and more weight in the market. It allows access to a vehicle without the need to buy it, in exchange for a monthly fee and with certain limits on both duration and mileage. It is, therefore, logical that it is also used to qualify for electrified vehicles: this is the rental of hybrid cars.

In general terms, we are talking about a system identical to that of conventional renting, with the only difference being that, as a general rule, hybrids (be they MHEV, HEV or PHEV) are more expensive than models with conventional thermal engines, the rates for renting of these are higher.

As in those, the monthly payments depend on the type of contract that is established, which also depend on the company with which the operation is carried out. However, the same standard terms remain, with options of 24, 36, 48 or 60 months; and with annual mileages that are usually 10,000, 15,000 or 20,000 kilometers (although also higher).

As usual, at a higher number of kilometers per year, the fee will be higher; in the same way that the shorter the duration of the contract, the more money will have to be paid as well.

Hybrid car rental

The offer of hybrid cars in renting is somewhat less than that of standard thermal cars for a mere market issue, but it is true that the difference is becoming smaller due to the proliferation of electrified mechanics.

This is a value aspect since, the higher the degree of electrification, the more expensive the monthly payment: microhybrids have the most affordable fees, intermediate hybrids and plug-in hybrids the most expensive. However, factors such as the fact that it is a premium model modify this principle and significantly increase the bill.

By establishing a general (very general) price range, it is possible to find hybrid rentals that range from just 200 or 300 euros to those that exceed 1,000 euros.

If you are looking for a specific model, we recommend you look at several companies to see which one offers a better rate. In fact, it’s a good idea even if you don’t have any vehicle in mind, so you can compare and weigh options.

It should also be borne in mind that on many occasions the prices offered are only for professionals, whether self-employed or companies, and that for private clients or not, the vehicles are not available or the conditions are somewhat worse.

The cheapest hybrid cars for rent

Given that, as we have mentioned before, microhybrids are the cheapest, we are going to make a selection with the most affordable options of each of the three available electrifications (the rate is indicative based on an average of the lowest rates that we have found ).

In addition, to take a standard point of reference, they will be rates offered by companies for 48-month contracts (4 years) with an annual mileage of 10,000 kilometers, which are the lowest possible and, therefore, the cheapest.

Among the micro-hybrids, the most prominent is the Fiat 500, which with its 70 CV mechanics meets urban standards and is also very popular among rental companies. It is possible to get one from rates around 220 euros per month. They are followed, although at a considerable distance, by the Kia Stonic (€280/month) and the 125 hp Ford Puma (€315/month).

Self-charging hybrids are the most common and, again, it is a small model that is more affordable: the Toyota Yaris, with its 116 hp, is available from around 280 euros per month. The others usually exceed the barrier of 300 euros per month, being one of those that adjust their rates the most the Yaris Cross (310 euros) and the Toyota C-HR (330 euros).

Plug-in hybrids are the most expensive but, within them, Kia has the most affordable models: Niro and Xceed PHEV have rates that range between 420 and 440 euros per month, while models as sold as the Hyundai Tucson depend on the company, with prices ranging from similar figures to over 500 euros.
