Lately, Chromecast devices continue to give users minor headaches, as can be seen from the comments that appear online. And, although this range of devices has already had a generational change in the form of the Google TV Streamer, they are still used by thousands of people.
Although it is not the first error that Chromecasts have registered in recent weeks, the good news is that they are not serious problems that will drastically alter their use. In this case, yes, it is an error that, in a way, exasperates users.
A change in the visual interface
No applications disappear, no services stop working, nor are there cuts or black screens. But what is happening is that, in the Chromecast Ambient Mode interface, a bug is reducing the size of the weather and time icons so much that it is difficult to keep track of them. Furthermore, it is not only that they look very small, but that their presence on the screen with a format proportional to that of the font used in the text that appears in the image, is annoying.

@Google Fix the time and temp size for Chromecast Ambient mode.
1/4″ is too small. https://t.co/lDD25B13NFJanuary 27, 2025 • 00:00

This is one of those things that we can overlook and that we are aware does not affect the experience, but every time we turn on the TV and see Ambient Mode, it irritates us. First, on the left, the degrees with the temperature and the weather descriptive icon appear tiny. And, next to it, the time is also a dwarf size. Below appears the copyright of the tool and the name of Google Earth, as well as the place that is represented in the image. Many users are wondering the same thing: could Google fix it so that we don’t despair always looking at how small these elements are appearing?
There doesn’t seem to be a solution
The general problem is that there are users who leave their Chromecast on throughout the day with Ambient Mode because it provides that vital information updated in real time. We can tell, at a quick glance, if it is raining or sunny, as well as what time it is. For those of us who are already a little tired of asking the assistant “What’s the weather?”, being able to see it at a glance is much more comfortable. But, of course, if we are in the habit of doing it from afar, with the reduction in size that is taking place there are not many possibilities to do it.
From what is said, it seems that the problem could be on the server and not be an error that is occurring due to a firmware update. The theory would suggest that Google will solve this problem soon and that users will be able to rest easy again. Luckily, it is not happening on all Chromecast models.
Based on the tests that have been carried out, the affected models would be the old Chromecasts, those that do not have Google TV. The rest of the devices, such as the Chromecast with Google TV and the Google TV Streamer itself, do not seem to be suffering from this problem, at least for now. It is also being mentioned that the affected models of the classic Chromecast seem to include versions of all generations and even the Ultra model.
Those who did not want to wait to solve this error have tried to change options in Ambient Mode and customize it in all kinds of ways, but there is no way to avoid it. The definitive conclusion has been reached that it is a bug, so we just have to wait for Google to find a solution. In principle, the fix should come soon, since it is not something that seems difficult to solve.
