Starting with tvOS 18, you can make app icons on the Apple TV home screen larger thanks to display zoom. We’ll show you how to set this up.

When Apple first released tvOS in 2015, each row of apps on the home screen consisted of five icons. Since tvOS 17 in 2023, that has been changed to six app icons side by side. If you can’t get used to that or simply find the icons too small, you can adjust the size of the app icons on the Apple TV home screen. This is possible thanks to Display Zoom on the Apple TV, which is new since tvOS 18.

Bigger app icons on Apple TV: here’s how to resize them

You may already be familiar with the Display Zoom function from the iPhone and iPad. It allows you to make everything on the screen just a little bit bigger. Think of text, but also the size of app icons. From tvOS 18, you will find this setting on the Apple TV, which can increase the size of certain elements on the screen. The function therefore not only affects the size of the app icons on your Apple TV home screen, but also some other parts of tvOS.

If you set the display zoom to Zoomed in, each row of apps on your home screen will consist of five icons instead of the standard six. Here’s how to adjust it:

  1. On tvOS 18 or later, go to Settings > Display.
  2. Under the Dark Mode option on Apple TV, you will find a Display Zoom heading. Select Zoomed In here.

As mentioned, Display Zoom also affects other parts, such as buttons in apps. There are many more ways to customize the display on Apple TV. For example, you can enable the previously mentioned dark mode on Apple TV, but you can also change the display of subtitles on Apple TV.
