There are multiple platforms specialized in showing the prices of different airlines to find the best offer and one of them is Google Flights. Recently, they have enabled a button to show only the most affordable flights in the US and, in the coming weeks, they will implement it globally.
Google is ready to end the odyssey of searching for a cheap flight. In their Google Flights comparator, they show us all kinds of options, from the cheapest to the most expensive. Although it is easy to find the best deals with this tool, the company wants to make it easier with a new tab called “cheapest”, which will show us the cheapest options.
Instead of analyzing the different fares based on the best features, you can filter the results by the cheapest tickets. This function will be perfect for those looking for low-cost alternatives for their trips. Additionally, they will better detail drawbacks, such as longer flights or more than one stopover. At the moment, the novelty is not available in Spain, but it is only a matter of time because Google plans to launch it worldwide.
Differences between the cheapest and best Google Flights option
Currently, Google Flight shows the best options first, which are not necessarily the cheapest. As the company itself clarifies, to put a flight at the top of the list they take into account both price and convenience. For example, a plane ticket may cost you 20 euros more, but go directly from the nearest airport instead of having to transfer. That would position it above the most affordable ride.
Google knows that there are users who don’t care so much about scale and who are willing to give up some comfort in exchange for paying less. For this reason, it has prepared a tab that will order the flights from cheapest to least, to help you find the best deal.
It will also provide reliable third party booking websites. The company explains that, sometimes, these pages offer a lower price than the airline itself. Not all price comparators are capable of doing this analysis, so Google Flights will become an especially useful tool for planning trips.
Until now, Google’s comparator showed both the cheapest outbound and return flights from the same airline. That is, if you traveled to Paris on Ryanair, you also had to return with the same company. You also couldn’t change to another nearby airport or with a transfer, even if the ticket could be cheaper. They are going to change that so that planning your getaway from the routine comes at the best price.
How to find the cheapest flight on Google Flights?
If you don’t mind longer layovers, self-transfers, or having to pay on two different airlines, the feature Google Flights has in store is great. Right now, when you enter all your preferences (departure location, destination, dates, etc.), the page shows you the results ordered according to what the algorithm considers best. Very soon there will be two tabs:
- The one that shows us the best option, according to Google Flights.
- The one that shows the cheapest flights, with possible drawbacks that will appear marked.
This way, you will be able to assess whether the price difference between the plane ticket that Google recommends and the cheapest option is worth it or not. The novelty does not have much loss, as you can see in the image we share below.
