We increasingly need more speed to navigate. There are many devices that we have at home that need the Internet to function, such as cell phones, computers or even home automation equipment that make our daily lives easier. But there comes a time when the speed we have is not enough to power so many devices.
Currently we do not need 10 gigabytes in our daily lives but everything is ready for speeds to skyrocket and allow us much more. Now, we can choose the speeds that the operators offer us up to a maximum of 1Gb… but what if in the future we need more speed? It is clear that with the Internet of Things and the amount of data we send and receive per day there will come a time when we need more speed. And Qualcomm is already thinking about it.
To allow us to fly with fiber over the Internet, Qualcomm has already developed and presented a platform called “Fiber Gateway” that will be used so that new generation devices can connect at high speed.
What is Fiber Gateway?
Qualcomm has announced its new platform with which it will help operators to offer ultra-fast 10Gb connections in our homes. Imagine that with speeds of 1Gb it is as if you had a sports car with a highway that is completely empty for you, a speed much higher than the rest of those offered by telecommunications companies. Well, with the technology presented by Qualcomm, that speed is multiplied by 10, offering much faster connections than the ones we have now and allowing connections of more devices at the same time.
Not only will it improve the speed of the devices, in addition, Fiber Gateway technology will allow the data flow of all home equipment to be unified, allowing streaming connections such as video conferences or online games with much greater speed and no latency. Something very important and that will significantly improve our Internet experience.
Fiber Gateway and WiFi 7
Beyond the speed offered by this new technology presented by Qualcomm, the company has announced the improvements that we can see in our WiFi connection at home. You should know that the WiFi speed you have at home will depend on the number of devices you have connected to the wireless network. So, the more devices you have connected, the slower their browsing speed will be. This problem is solved by Qualcomm by combining its Fiber Gateway technology with WiFi 7. Allowing greater connectivity between wireless devices, increasing speed and reducing latency in connections.
A solution that will help better manage all the devices we have connected at home. An improved WiFi connection that will allow you to have many more devices connected to the WiFi network without noticing speed losses: mobile phones, tablets, computers, smart robots and consoles connected at the same time…
When will it arrive
Although new technology promises an improvement in the way we connect to the Internet from our devices, it is not yet available. It is expected to go on sale in the summer of 2024, so we will still have to wait a little longer for it to be available globally for all users and for it to be compatible with the devices we use in our daily lives.
