Specifically, they have blamed Google, Cloudflare and the social network X. They ensure that they allow pirate services to continue and those who want to watch pirate football, have a chance there. Basically, he has assured that the United States, through these companies, is, in some way, facilitator of piracy.
LaLiga blames Google, Cloudflare and X
LaLiga has indicated that Google, Cloudflare and X are intermediaries, based in the United States, which facilitate piracy. In fact, they indicate that there has been a continuous increase in piracy for 2024 and that this would not have been possible if these three platforms would have prevented it. At least, that’s what they believe.
In the statement, LaLiga explains that these platforms and service providers offer an infrastructure considered critical that allows piracy networks to work and prosper over time. This includes the possibility of gaining anonymity in the network, through VPN, house content or indexing websites.
Keep in mind that Google is the biggest search engine in Spain. It is the platform that we all use when we have to perform a search on the Internet, either of a problem for which we want to find a solution, reach a page that interests us, etc.
As for Cloudflare, it is a content distribution network. In addition, it allows you to use a VPN and gain anonymity on the Internet. Many piracy sites, according to LaLiga, are housed in Cloudflare, so he considers that he is a clear facilitator of pirate sporting events.
Regarding X, formerly known as Twitter, it is a social network that has millions of users in Spain. It is very easy to put a message and reach thousands of people. In addition, it also provides anonymity. Anyone can create a profile on this platform and not have to give their name. That, for LaLiga, also facilitates piracy.
Do not give concrete solutions
Although LaLiga has named these three platforms, they have really not given any solution to what they should do to avoid piracy. However, it should be mentioned that, on other occasions, they have criticized Cloudflare for making it difficult to identify the location of pirate sites and services.
They have also criticized that X does not take immediate measures when they are requested to perform something to eliminate a message, for example, where piracy is promoted. As we have indicated, it is a social network that allows anonymity and anyone can put a tweet and reach many in seconds.
As for Google, they clearly complain that they have indexed websites that promote piracy. They do not indicate concrete measures to avoid this, but they do mention what the problem is.
