More and more users are deciding to turn their backs on Microsoft’s office suite, Office, and opt for other 100% free alternatives, as well as free and private ones. The best known is LibreOffice, from The Document Foundation, a suite that has everything we may need in our daily lives, both at home and in the company, to write documents, create spreadsheets, and much more.

After separating from the OpenOffice branch, LibreOffice continued its development independently, doing very well and growing much more than they had expected. Unlike the original project, this suite is committed to continuing to evolve and improve, adding new functions and features that allow it to stand out from the rest. Of course, without leaving aside users who seek stability above other features. For this reason, The Document Foundation usually has two versions in development. The first of them, the most advanced, which focuses on being up to date, with the risk that some of the new features included may not work at all well, and the second, an older version that continues to receive patches and corrections exclusively to solve security errors and problems detected in the suite.

After earlier this month the company released LibreOffice 7.5.8, the latest version of the 7.5 branch focused exclusively on fixing bugs, today we get a new release of the most advanced version: LibreOffice 7.6.3.

What’s new in LibreOffice 7.6.3

The new LibreOffice 7.6.3 arrives almost a month after the release of version 7.6.2. On this occasion, in its two Release Candidate versions, The Document Foundation has corrected more than 115 problems in order to offer its users an office suite that is as stable as possible.

The problems detected and corrected are of all kinds: from stability errors that could crash the program to compatibility problems with other formats, specifically with documents in Microsoft Office format. At the moment, The Document Foundation has not published the full list of fixed issues, although it should not be long in coming.

For now, the company continues to recommend the 7.5.x branch in production environments, since the 7.6 branch is considered unstable and experimental. In any case, since 7.5 will no longer receive any more updates, 7.6 will soon become the main one.

How to download

This new version is now available, 100% free, for all users who want to use it. To lower it, we only have to enter this link and download it from there. If you already have the suite installed on your computer, and you use it often, you will also be able to update directly using its own updater, although it usually receives the news a little later, so if you don’t want to download and install it by hand, you will have to to wait a little longer.

Furthermore, another very important novelty for Android users is that The Document Foundation has (again) launched its official app to view all types of documents based on the ODF (Open Document Format) format on mobile, also being compatible with the MS Office format.

This way, if you were looking for a document viewer to carry on your mobile, you now have one of the best you can find.
