The year 2025 begins with telecommunications operators making decisions that will help them settle the coming months with very good results. As previously mentioned, one of the trends this year will be, unsurprisingly, alliances between all types of companies. And MasOrange seems to have the first on its hands.
Analysts are very clear that 2025 is going to be one of the years with the most corporate activity that can be remembered. And that is quite remarkable in view of everything that happened in 2024, a year in which many related operations were also carried out. MasOrange is not wasting time and, according to what we read in El Confidencial, it would be in negotiations with Endesa.
MasOrange and the energy business
Following the merger, MasOrange is adjusting its business and looking for new ways to achieve even better results across its various divisions. The business it has related to energy and gas is, for example, one in which the entity has great aspirations. But, to continue moving forward, it seems that he is looking for a partner to give him support. And, from what we read in the source, it seems that the operator would be negotiating with Endesa.
In this case, it would be MasOrange that would have been looking for a partner for the last few months. The objective would be to receive support to be able to continue growing with the support of this specialized entity that energizes and promotes its energy business. According to what is said, the operator would have had different projects and proposals on the table, such as those signed by Naturgy and Iberdrola. In any case, he would have opted, in the end, for the proposal made by Endesa, which, as you surely already know, is one of the leading entities in relation to the energy industry.
Another option that MasOrange valued was Repsol. And, although it could have been one of the most interesting offers, the negotiations were left halfway because the energy company already has a collaboration with Telefónica. As much as this solar panel business is not being beneficial for either party, it was a point of conflict that prevented MasOrange and Repsol from having that type of relationship that the operator is looking for. Based on this and the analysis of the other proposals, MasOrange would have opted for Endesa’s offer.
What will happen thanks to this agreement?
According to what is said, the final objective is for Endesa to take care of all the energy and gas clients that MasOrange has. This is not a small number, since based on aggressive campaigns and various acquisitions, the operator has reached a figure of around 300,000 customers. Originally, this energy company was called EnergyGo and, as time went by, it continued to find its place while MasOrange went through an important series of changes.
Although the agreement is not yet official, it could be very advanced. This is what is deduced when we see that the point at which the process is has already been revealed. This will be divided into two phases and, in the first, MasOrange will receive 100 million euros from Endesa. It will be in exchange for the sale of a significant stake in the company, although the operator will remain within it with a minority stake. From this first phase, Endesa and MasOrange will strengthen their energy business with the intention of achieving a series of milestones specified in the contract.
Thus, the mission they have set is to achieve, within a period of three years, a figure that could rise to 600,000 clients. Supposedly, if its goals are achieved, the amount of the operation would not remain at 100 million, but could escalate to an amount of between 250 and 300 million euros. That would give MasOrange an important financial boost and would confirm that, in the end, they will have been able to make the most of their business and, above all, their clients.
And talking about customers is key, since the great growth of up to 600,000 customers that MasOrange is looking for in energy and gas will be achieved thanks to the operator’s base of more than 10 million users. This will put this enormous database in the hands of Endesa and, in this way, they hope to achieve the figures they are talking about.
