There are only a few days left to finally be able to install the new version of Windows 11, 24H2. Although Microsoft has not yet made public the announcement of this new version, the company has just made a mistake in the announcement of the latest security and privacy changes in Copilot, unintentionally revealing the date on which it plans to launch the long-awaited update to its operating system. And, the truth is, it will arrive much sooner than expected.

Windows 11 Insider users have been testing this new version, along with all the new features that have been arriving, since May 2023. But it has not been until now that it is finally ready to arrive as one of the biggest Windows 11 updates released since its launch.

Just yesterday we were speculating that Microsoft had not released any new Windows 11 Insider updates for two weeks, which implied that it was not working on the new version. And, in the end, it turns out that we were right: the update to 24H2 is now ready for release. And this is the date on which it will arrive.

Windows 11 24H2 Release Date

As Microsoft indicates in its post about Copilot, the changes planned for its Artificial Intelligence assistant will arrive with the next Windows feature update, which is scheduled, according to the company, for September 24, 2024. That is, there is less than a week left to be able to update all our computers to the new version.

Windows 11 24H2 Update

Next week’s update is going to be an optional update. That is, we won’t receive it automatically (yet) on our computers. But we will be able to search for updates manually from Windows Update to download and install them on our PC. This way, we can make the jump to Windows 11 24H2, and enjoy all the new features and improvements (which are not few) that Microsoft has been cooking up for more than a year.

Microsoft has not yet provided details on how much the update will cost. We do not know if the changes are already present in the system files and a small patch is enough to activate it, or if we will have to download an update of hundreds of megabytes, as in other times. Users who do not install the update as part of the optional patches will receive it as a mandatory update on October 8, just when the next Microsoft security patches are scheduled to be released.

Most important changes in Windows 11 24H2

Among others, some of the most relevant changes that we are going to find in this Windows 11 update are:

  • Changes in Windows File Explorer.
  • Support for Wi-Fi 7.
  • Many new AI features, along with a new version of Copilot.
  • Improvements in energy saving systems.
  • Changes to the taskbar and start menu.
  • Kernel Hot Patching.

In addition, starting with this version, Microsoft will begin using “delta patches”, i.e. much smaller monthly updates that will only include the changes applied since previous versions. Thanks to this, in addition to saving energy, these updates will be much smaller and faster than they are now.
