That Netflix was going to raise prices again before the end of 2024 was an open secret. Since this summer, strong rumors have been heard about this increase in the price of their subscriptions. And in the end… that’s how it was. But not only in Spain, but also in other parts of Europe such as Italy. So the streaming platform, despite achieving record subscribers, income and profits during this last quarter (41% more than the third quarter of the previous year), is raising its price again.

Starting today, you can see the new price that new subscribers will have to pay. More than anything, because there is still no word on when this price increase will affect those accounts that have an active subscription. Surely, if you take a look at your Netflix account, you will still get the old price, however, if you want to change plans, the new prices already appear.

The curious thing is that this rise comes after Netflix announces the results of its third quarter. During the months of July and September, the company had a turnover of up to 9,825 million dollars, which is 15% more than a year before. And not only this, but subscribers also increased compared to the same period in 2023.

Up to 2 euros more for Netflix

The streaming platform warned in a letter to shareholders: “As we seek to increase participation and provide more value to our members, we are also working to improve our monetization by perfecting our plans and prices. The key is to make sure we have a variety of prices and plans to satisfy many needs.” And so it has been. In addition, it was made clear that, starting October 18, today, changes in their prices could be seen in Spain (in addition to other European countries such as Italy). Therefore, this is how their plans look from now on:

  • Standard with ads: €6.99 per month
  • Standard: €13.99 per month
  • Premium: €19.99 per month

Therefore, if the new prices are taken into account, the standard plan with ads increases by 1.5 euros per month; The standard without ads goes up 1 euro per month and the premium plan goes up to 2 euros per month. But, as we said, at the moment it only affects new subscribers or active accounts that change plans. Basically, because users who already have a subscription have not yet started receiving the email notifying them of the price change, which must be at least one month before the billing date.

This increase in Netflix fees might come as a surprise if there hadn’t been so much rumor about it this past summer. For example, the Jefferies firm explained that this has a reason: the content that is to come as a premiere to the platform’s catalog. Something that has meant a significant outlay for the streaming service company.

In addition, it must be taken into account that, for example, the price of the Premium plan was still 17.99 euros per month, while other countries, such as the United Kingdom, France or the United States, have already raised the plan to 19.99 euros. That is, almost 20 euros per month.
